Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix, famous for his role in the American psychological thriller Joker, just became father to a baby boy.

Welcoming his first child with fiancée Rooney Mara, baby River is named after Joaquin's late brother, who passed away at 23 in the year 1993.

Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky announced the news during a question-answer session at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival on Sunday.

"He just got a baby, by the way, a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote it now," he said, following the screening of the Phoenix-directed black and white documentary Gunda.

Previously, the proud parent duo have co-starred in films Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot and Mary Magdalene.

We wish the couple all the very best for this new journey.
