Cancer patient who rallied Twitter to meet Shah Rukh Khan as last wish dies

Aruna may not have met Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan in real life, but rest assured, her love wasn't unrequited.

Last week, Aruna's well wishers rallied on Twitter, using the hashtag #SRKMeetsAruna to catch SRK's attention and make their favourite social media-savvy senior citizen's dying wish come true.

Aruna, who died Tuesday after battling with cancer for over six years, had expressed on Twitter how Shah Rukh Khan was a source of strength for her and kept her smiling through the tough times.

Aruna's picture with her charming smile very quickly won over hearts. And though her wish to meet SRK before she dies couldn't come true, the King of Bollywood (and Hearts!!!) made sure to return the love in a personalised video message.

In his heartwarming message, SRK thanks Aruna for all the love, care and thoughts she carried for him, and admired her courage in her battle against cancer.

"You are a very, very strong lady Aruna. Mujhe maloom hai (I know), with the gusto and the will that you have, and the happiness you have spread around you, I can tell you have the strength to fight this illness," he said.

SRK also promised to perform on Aruna's favourite song once she is better as at that time, she was in a state when meeting her was not advised.

"We are all praying for you," he said, adding that he would like to speak to Aruna over the phone if the doctors allow, so "I can pray directly to you, see you smile and smile back at you," he said.

"Inshallah, with our prayers and your strengths, you will get better very, very soon," he added.

After her demise, SRK tweeted a personalised message addressing Aruna's children, offering them heartfelt condolences and reassuring them that Aruna may have left earth but she is still around, looking upon them from heaven.

Aruna and her jolly smile will sorely be missed.

I feel sad ,though SRK has delivered very warm message to the heirs. The best way to remember Aruna and bless her soul, is to form a help foundation with her name, like ARUNA-SRK FOUNDATION,and SRK may begin it with hefty amount, and other philanthropists may follow, for noble purpose of helping cancer patients .

Shahrukh, back in 1996, during an interview you started smoking. I liked the style so much I picked up a cigarette the very next morning. It has been 23 full years of chain smoking since then. With all this, came the health issues. Stars should never smoke in public . Never!

Why did SRK not meet her in person?

He should have made every effort to go and meet her in person. I understand visitors were not allowed in the stage she was in but there could have been an exception in this case as it was the last wish of this woman who was on a death bed. Really disappointed with SRK. Wished he would have gone to see her in person.

@Shahryar Shirazi: Sorry to hear that. Stars like SRK can have a more malign or harmful influence when one is younger. The young mind is very impressionable, and a lot of people can't resist the influence at that age. Compared to 1996, these days the health dangers of smoking are well publicized.

@Shahryar Shirazi , I agree with you my friend.. Stars influence millions of people they should avoid such things at least in public and on screen.. I appreciate Rahul Dravid , Sachin Tendulker and Amir Khan for not endorsing liquor brands though all other cricketers and bollywood stars are doing this..
