Here's what you need to know about Pakistan's first online movie

'Oye! Kuch Kar Guzar' stars Ali Safina, Ushna Shah and Uzair Jaswal in pivotal roles
Updated 01 Dec, 2016

There is no denying it: the internet has changed our world...and the movie business with it.

Oye! Kuch Kar Guzar, Pakistan’s first online film that lets the viewer decide his or her own story, sets a precedent for content creators and consumers.

The film is aptly named Oye! Kuch Kar Guzar — which translates into ‘take the plunge, or just do it’ — and reinforces our essence of gaining independence through a digital lifestyle.

This country first collaboration has been shot in a way that gives alternate endings to each episode. Each episode compels the viewer to steer the story in their chosen direction by using annotations and end screens that keep the viewers tuned in. Viewers can also skip ahead, see related videos throughout and you get to provide calls to action at the right times.

This empowerment not only enriches the viewing experience by adding information and engagement, but also allows the brand to interact with its consumers on a whole new level.

So grab some popcorn, subscribe to djuice Pakistan and see how the exciting and unforgettable adventure unfolds.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm not sure what the story will be like but it is technically very interesting. Firstly the entire movie is being released online first, I don't know if this has happened anywhere else before (apart from Netflix). Secondly it is interactive, at junctions in the film the viewer will be able to choose what to do next and tailor the film to their ideas. I've read books in the past that worked that way and they were very enjoyable. People need to be less negative. Big movie markets churn out tonnes of rubbish every year. How many Bollywood films or Hollywood films released this year were actually spectacular? I can only think of Deadpool. There were many good films, many okay films, but perhaps only a handful of really excellent films. Why do you expect everything from the Pakistani film industry to compete at that level?

Going digital in Pakistan has come to mean going western full throttle with a gear box plunged conveniently in the grassroots. I am glad i am no longer the relevant demographic.
