Halsey reveals lupus diagnosis, releases new single ‘The End’
American singer Halsey revealed in an Instagram post that she has been battling illnesses and revealed her new single ‘The End’. The singer also announced her upcoming album.
Initially, she did not divulge much information, and in a cryptic caption stated, “Long story short, I’m Lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with ‘The End’. Out now”.
The song, which reached over 250,000 views on YouTube in a day, details her medical complications — “Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick // Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks, and then they lay it on me”.
A day later, the ‘Closer’ singer took to Instagram again to thank her fans for the “unbelievable amount of love” for the single and for their support.
“In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life,” Halsey shared.
Systemic lupus erythematosus, or Lupus SLE, is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. Lymphoproliferative disorders are a group of diseases that cause an uncontrolled production of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. According to Medical News Today, when lymphocytes multiply uncontrollably, they disrupt the body’s ability to maintain a balanced immune response.
Halsey continued that after a rocky start to the medical challenges she faced, she slowly got matters under control with the “help of amazing doctors”. Halsey added that she was feeling better and more grateful than ever to have music to turn to.
“I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all. Singing and screaming my heart out.”
