One person killed after Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s film set catches on fire in Mumbai

A fire broke out on the set of Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor Shraddha Kapoor’s latest film and though earlier reports suggested there had been no casualties, the most recent findings report one death.

On Friday, the set for the yet-to-be-titled movie, located in Mumbai, was being prepared to shoot a song and in a shocking turn of events, it caught fire, according to Pinkvilla. Shooting had not officially begun — Ranbir and Shraddha were scheduled to start coming in from next week.

According to a report published in Mumbai Live, a level 2 fire was seen at the Chitrakoot Ground near Sadar Bazaar. Reportedly, the fire had erupted in a 1,000 sq ft area. The media reports said that 10 fire engines and two water tanks were rushed to the location in an attempt to douse the fire.

The film, helmed by Luv Ranjan, is Ranbir and Shraddha’s first collaboration. Commenting on the incident, Boney Kapoor, another actor in the movie, told Bombay Times, “Everyone’s okay. By God’s grace there have been no casualties. Only lighting work was going on today. Everyone was preparing for tomorrow’s shoot. Shooting was to take place on this set tomorrow”. He said the cause of the fire is still unknown but he believes that it could be due to a short circuit.

In the initial reports, no injuries were reported but after the fire was extinguished, one man working on the set was found dead, according to the Hindustan Times Cooper Hospital’s Dr Sadaphule confirmed to the media that a 32-year-old male, Manish Devashi, was brought dead. The fire was reported around 4:30pm and extinguished around 10:35pm, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

Ranbir is currently shooting for Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal with Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. He has also got Brahmastra, his film with wife Alia Bhatt, coming out soon. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the fantasy drama will also feature Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni in the lead and will hit theatres on September 9.
