PM Shehbaz, President Alvi congratulate APS survivor Ahmad Nawaz for becoming Oxford Union president

Ahmad Nawaz, a survivor of the 2014 APS attack, continues to make Pakistan proud with his achievements, the latest being his election as president of the Oxford Union. His achievement has been lauded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Arif Alvi.

Taking to Twitter, President Alvi shared a photo of Nawaz on Sunday and wrote that the biggest hope for Pakistan is the youth, congratulating him on being elected president of the union.

His tweet was acknowledged by Nawaz who wrote that it's an "incredibly huge honour" to be congratulated by the president of Pakistan and that he is truly grateful for all the support he has received from Pakistanis at every step of his journey. "I shall continue trying to empower as many young people possible and work towards a more equal world," he tweeted.

On Monday, PM Shehbaz also tweeted to congratulate Nawaz and called his journey "inspiring", one that is "fuelled by determination & sheer will power". He said Pakistan is proud of Ahmad.

Actor Sana Javed also acknowledged the news and reposted President Alvi's tweet. "So proud of you Masha Allah. shine on," she wrote.

Nawaz had taken to Twitter to share the news on June 21 and wrote, "In my time as President, I look forward to having world leaders debate the most pressing issues, empowering young people through this platform & upholding freedom of speech!" and said there's a long way to go.
