Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' new trailer reveals Stephen's dark side
There's a new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and it opens to Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) "dreaming the same nightmare". Strange is on a mission to save the world alongside his ex-girlfriend Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams). Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Wong (Benedict Wong) also play a key role in the doctor's discovery of universes.
A new trailer released on April 6 that revealed many of the upcoming challenges the doctor will face in the film slated for a theatrical release worldwide on May 6. Characters from the first film in 2016 will reprise their roles in the sequel.
According to the Collider, Doctor Strange, Wanda and Wong aren't the only prime actors in the film. Xochitl Gomez will also appear as America Chavez, a young superhero with the power to open portals to different realities.
The new trailer, like the previous one, focuses on the alternate realities that the Sorcerer Supreme along with others will travel to. While the previous trailer unveiled the aftermath of the portals unlocked by the doctor, the latest explores more of his dreams and the dark side within him that he will fight in the sequel.
The opening scene shows the caped hero standing surrounded by a grey pavement with human skulls placed on it and bent trees as he sees the Sanctum Sanctorum melt into the air. It's described as ink melting of reality in the comics as seen in the first trailer when Strange saw skyscrapers of New York melting away.
The very grey clip is contrasted with a sharp red spotlight where Strange stands — a sign that Wanda Maximoff is in the picture as well. It hints at the fact that both Wanda and Strange share a psychic link and have been having the same nightmares.
The story then carries on to Strange saying "the nightmare begins," hinting at the supervillain Nightmare's entry in the film. While the story focuses on him it also unveils a possible crossover with X-men and other Marvel superheroes. As the Supreme takes on the task to save the world, Strange, Wanda and Wong are seen saying, "the fate of the multiverse depends on us" while facing the multiverse threats.
According to The Verge, the movie looks to be the MCU’s biggest foray into alternate worlds and timelines that instalments like Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home have begun to explore.
The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer.
