Model Bella Hadid to make acting debut in television series Ramy
Supermodel Bella Hadid will be making her acting debut in the third season of streaming service Hulu's show Ramy.
The 25-year-old Palestinian-American model made the announcement on Instagram on Friday, April 1, and wrote that she's "honoured and excited" to be working with the "best cast and crew". She shared a screenshot of an article talking about her acting debut.
Details about the model's character or her relationship with other characters in the show haven't been revealed as yet. Ramy will mark Hadid's first official scripted role. The show, according to Variety, has been nominated for an Emmy. It led to actor and comedian Ramy Youssef — the show's main lead — earning a Golden Globe award in 2020.
Ramy's cast also includes Laith Nakli, Amr Waked, Hiam Abbass, Dave Mehrheje, May Calamawy, Steve Way and Mohammed Amer. The show is about an Egyptian-American Muslim (Ramy) raised by his immigrant parents in the West.
According to Deadline, Ramy explores the challenges faced by a Muslim raised in the West, someone who is caught between a religious community that believes in an afterlife and a millennial generation that doubts whether an afterlife actually exists. In the third season, the character Ramy abandons his spiritual journey, dedicating himself to his and his uncle's diamond business.
The series is written, directed and produced by Youssef himself. Other executive producers include Christopher Storer, Amir Suleiman, Tyson Bidner and Adel Kamal.
