Indian politician Rahul Gandhi penned a letter of support to Shah Rukh Khan during son's arrest: reports

Leader of the Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi reportedly wrote a letter to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan while their son Aryan was in jail.

The Hindustan Times has quoted sections from the letter, which was written on October 14,"The truth cannot be held hostage for long," the politician wrote.

It's not easy to see a loved one in such a situation, Gandhi said. "I know that you are compassionate and created goodwill in the community. That's why I can see widespread support for your family," he said. The letter has not been made public by Shah Rukh or his family but sections of it have been released to the media by sources.

A spokesperson for Gandhi's political party, Randeep Surjewala, however, said that if there was any such letter, it cannot be made public as it was a personal exchange between Rahul Gandhi and Shah Rukh Khan.

Support for Shah Rukh, one of if not the biggest star in India, has been mixed amid his son's arrest in a case relating to the "conscious possession" of drugs.

The NCB said it recovered 13 grams of cocaine, five grams of MD, 21 grams of charas and 22 pills of MDMA, and 133,000 INR during the October 3 raid, however, none of the recovered narcotics were in Aryan’s possession. The NCB argued that that was immaterial and said he was a “regular consumer of drugs” according to his WhatsApp conversations. Aryan's lawyer, on the other hand, contended that the conversations were taken out of context and did not relate to the use of drugs. The NCB's argument in court was that Aryan was in conscious possession of drugs as he reportedly knew his friend carried them in his shoe.

While several of Shah Rukh's superstar colleagues publicly offered support to him and his son, many others stayed silent, only wishing him on his birthday.

His son Aryan was arrested on October 3 by the Narcotics Control Bureau during a raid on a cruise ship in Mumbai and granted bail by the Bombay High Court on October 28. Ever since his release from jail, he has kept a low profile. Recently, Shah Rukh celebrated his 56th birthday but unlike previous years, he didn't appear on his balcony to wave to fans gathered outside. He and Aryan shifted to their farmhouse in Alibaug and police officers prevented fans from gathering.
