Indian actor Juhi Chawla signs INR 100,000 bond for Aryan Khan's release

Indian actor Juhi Chawla has signed an INR 100,000 surety bond for the release of Aryan Khan, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's eldest son.

According to the Hindustan Times, Chawla arrived at the special narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances court in Mumbai on Friday evening to sign the bond, after the bail conditions were given by the Bombay High Court. Aryan was granted bail by the high court on Thursday but was not initially released.

The publication also highlighted reports stating that Aryan would not be released on Friday either as the 5:30pm deadline to submit the documents had been missed.

Chawla has known Aryan since his birth due to her professional association with his father, Aryan's lawyer said.

As part of his bail, Aryan will have to surrender his passport and report to the NCB office every Friday.

Twenty-three-year-old Aryan was arrested by India's Narcotics Control Bureau during an October 2 raid on a cruise ship in Mumbai and charged with possession of narcotics. He was remanded into NCB custody till October 7 and presented in court. He was presented in court again on October 8, October 14 and October 20 his bail plea was rejected each time. He then finally approached the Bombay High Court and was granted relief after three straight days of hearings.

The NCB said it recovered 13 grams of cocaine, five grams of MD, 21 grams of charas and 22 pills of MDMA, and 133,000 INR during the raid, however, none of the recovered narcotics were in Aryan’s possession. The NCB argued that that was immaterial and said he was a “regular consumer of drugs” according to his WhatsApp conversations. Aryan's lawyer, on the other hand, contended that the conversations were taken out of context and did not relate to the use of drugs.
