Mehwish Hayat clarifies leaked video, says her comments on Kashmir taken out of context
Mehwish Hayat has always been vocal about many political issues, including women's rights and what's happening in occupied Kashmir.
However, a video has recently been leaked that makes it seem that the actor avoided the topic in a very nonchalant manner, enraging many to think she would skip the important subject for personal gains.
To be honest, the video is too short and only shows the actor refusing to talk about the matter during a charity event from a different organisation - Penny Appeal, of which she is an ambassador.
We're more concerned with how she refused to speak rather than the refusal itself. There is a way to clarify your stance on a delicate subject and not laughing it off, saying you've been told not to speak on it.
Considering the sensitive matter that is occupied Kashmir, many expressed their outrage over Mehwish not speaking on a matter she has spoken about often times before, which is how Mehwish responded to the backlash.
"The leaked video is being taken out of context," wrote Mehwish. "I’ve been the most vocal on the Kashmir issue globally and will continue to do so. I have big plans for next steps."
To clarify why she didn't speak up then, she said, "This was a charity event and was requested by the PR not to be political and not distract from the orphans I was there to help."

While we do agree Mehwish could have responded in a much better manner at the time - perhaps saying the exact things she used as clarification - and it wouldn't have seemed so problematic, we do understand what the actor is trying to say.
If one has been vocal about an issue and chooses not to be on one event, it shouldn't be used against them with such sensationalism. Although Mehwish, next time, maybe don't just say "Manaa kiya hai (they said no)" because it feels like either you've been censored or have a strict parent, both weird.
