The Joker descends into madness in the film's latest trailer
If you aren't excited for DC's latest project, that makes one of you.
Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is nearing its release and we just got a new trailer to get hyped up about it. As if we weren't already though.
The latest trailer shows that Joker isn't following any comic book plot for this origin story although some might see a hint of The Killing Joke with Phoenix's struggle as a stand up comedian.
Phoenix plays Arthur Miller, the average man who descends into madness after the world knocked him down one too many times.
The trailer resembles one of Joker's most popular quotes: "So when you find yourself locked onto an unpleasant train of thought, heading for the places in your past where the screaming is unbearable, remember there’s always madness. Madness is the emergency exit... you can just step outside, and close the door on all those dreadful things that happened. You can lock them away, forever."
We still don't get a glimpse of Batman in the trailer, who in the books has always felt responsible for creating the clown prince of crime. Perhaps the movie will have that cameo which will give us more.
One thing's for sure, Joaquin Phoenix has gotten the laugh down to the tee and is second only to Mark Hamill. We see a few awards coming his way.
Joker releases October 4.
