I want to try and stay away from #MeToo: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui would rather not talk about the important #MeToo movement that has taken place worldwide as it would divert the focus from his career..

“I just don’t want to talk about it. Why unnecessarily create controversy again," he said when he was approached to talk about sexual assault allegations on Indian director Rajkumar Hirani.

He added, "For me my career is important. After so many years of struggle, I am getting work, so I want to focus on it. I want to try and stay away from all this. Now whether I get affected or not, it is a personal thing."

Talking about his memoir which he pulled back after hurting sentiments of the women he named detailing their relations, Siddiqui stressed, "I am just the same person. I am an actor and I just want to work. I just want to act. I don’t want to talk about anyone and what is happening in my personal life. I don’t want people to focus on that. I am known and have become popular due to my work and so I just want to concentrate on my work."

Hirani has been accused of sexual assault by his former assistant director. The woman said that the filmmaker of 3 Idiots and Munna Bhai assaulted her on multiple occasions over a six-month period between March and September 2018.

Hirani through his lawyer Anand Desai has categorically denied the allegations.
