Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha says he'll work with Subash Ghai even if he's proven guilty
Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha has worked with filmmaker Subash Ghai on multiple films. So when asked about the recent allegations made against Ghai, the actor tried to support him.
In an interview with IANS, Sinha was asked about the allegations, where he said, "I am all for the MeToo movement, never in my 40-year career have I misbehaved with any woman. I treat every lady with utmost respect. Having said that, I think this MeToo campaign is being blown out of all proportion... While the cause was definitely noble and praiseworthy, it has now become a free-for-all. Anyone can name and shame anyone. Reputations and jobs are being lost through a trial by media. To all the women who are aggrieved, I say, please go to court and make sure the wrongdoers are punished."
But that was not the cause for alarm. When asked about working with Subash Ghai after these allegations coming forward he responded, "Why not? If he is proven innocent, why not? Even if he is proven guilty, and he serves the punishment given to him, I’d work with him."
Reminder: Subash Ghai was accused of drugging and raping multiple women. If the allegations are proven true, Ghai would be proven guilty of numerous charges of rape.
Sinha justifies his stance by saying, "Sanjay Dutt served his jail sentence and is back working in our large-hearted film industry. In fact, we had no problem working with him even when he was an accused in a serious case."
For Sinha, working with Dutt but not with Ghai would be a move of 'hypocrisy' but here's another reminder; Sanjay Dutt served time for possessing a weapon (which he didn't fire) while Subash Ghai would be serving time for a very violent act.
To say 'innocent until proven guilty' is one thing but to say you'll work with a convicted rapist is another.
