Sridevi's daughter hopes she can create her own identity

Sridevi's daughter is all set for her debut in film Dhadak.

When Janhvi Kapoor shared pictures of the movie on her social media, she got comments on how much she resembled her late mother.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, she revealed how the reality of her debut is hitting her now, resulting in butterflies. She said, "During the shoot, I was far removed from the din. Now, I can only hope that I live up to the expectations, including my own."

She added, "Hopefully, I’m worthy enough to be given the chance to create my own identity."

For Janhvi, the release of Dhadak is a bittersweet moment, with her celebrating her debut without her mother, who passed away in February this year. The upcoming actor reminisced about her first day on set, when she was accompanied by both Sridevi and father Boney Kapoor, and how that made it a special day.

"It was my moment of truth and fortunately it went smoothly. The first shot was okayed in one take. We had prepped so much that I wasn’t nervous and felt like everything in my life had been building up to this moment."

Sridevi's passing took place during Janhvi's shoots. While dismayed, she did her best to stay professional and continued her work, a scene very reminiscent to Shah Rukh Khan's if you think about it. Janhvi also kept the original release dates for her film.

"It was an organic decision,” she said, adding, "Surprisingly, the only thing I don’t associate with work is mom. Both of us had consciously decided that this would be my own journey. Acting is the only thing I knew to do without her."

But she also mentioned that the last few months had been hitting her hard. According to the actor, "Working was the easy part, everything else was a struggle."

After the death of her mother, Janhvi reconnected with stepbrother Arjun Kapoor, who made sure to be her rock in the difficult times and also did his best to make her feel welcome in the industry.

About Arjun, Janhvu said, "I’ve realised Arjun is very wise, just like dad. They can comfort and guide you in a way that many people can’t. It comes from experience and having made successful films. Everyone has always said such nice things about him and the way he’s been brought up. He values honesty and tells me to be respectful towards people."

Apart from Arjun, the whole family has served as a support system for the young actor as she revealed during the trailer launch how her whole family showed up from her uncles, aunts to cousins.

According to Janhvi, "Everything I’ve done is to get validation from mom and dad and this kind of love and unity from the family makes me feel safe and secure."

Dhadak is slated for release July 20.
