Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Manto is going to Cannes Film Festival 2018
With no release date yet, the period drama will see its premiere at the prestigious film festival
Manto is as raw and gritty as it gets.
In a sneak peak of what Nandita Das has in store for audiences, Manto's teaser shows us the realities and brutalities of a writer's life. Of course Manto was no ordinary writer, "he wrote as he saw. He spoke as he thought," as the teaser says.
"Jab ghulam thay toh azaadi kay khwaab dekhtay thay, aur ab azaad hain toh kaunsay khwaab dekain gay?" is a very powerful question which lingers long after the teaser ends.
Manto premiered at Cannes yesterday to a full house. The film based on the life of writer Saadat Manto will be competing in the Un Certain Regard category along with 20 other films.
Manto's release date has not yet been announced.
