Amy Schumer reveals she lost her virginity through rape

During a conversation on Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul Conversation this week, actress and comedien Amy Schumer confided in the host about her self-labeled ‘grape’ (grey area rape) by her former boyfriend.

Schumer shared that the incident happened while she was asleep and she considers it rape as she was not conscious during the entirety of the incident and because she had not given her consent to her partner: "I didn't consent; for me, I lost my virginity while I was asleep and that's not okay."

In the conversation, the stars, who've both been victims of sexual assault agreed that part of the problem with labelling rape is that as children, women are often taught that rapists are men ‘popping out from a bus, some villain’.

"They don't say it's probably going to be a guy you know really well, it could be your husband, your friend. So you think when something like that happens to you, you think this isn't someone you want to see rotting in a jail cell but what he did to me was wrong," added the I Feel Pretty leading lady.

When further asked by Oprah if she felt differently about the experience years later, Schumer shared: “There is the desire to label things so we can store it somewhere and put it away. I personally — I feel like I lost my virginity through rape. I didn’t consent, we hadn’t discussed it. We weren’t there in our relationship, and we talked about things, you know. We were open with each other.”
