Fashion resolutions for 2018

Let's be honest: Fashion isn’t what it used to be. It’s had a rollercoaster ride in 2017, rising high only to plummet very quickly to mundane lows.

The sequins have been blinding, the high street launches have been overwhelming and the fashion soirees have been so numerous that you know precisely what every ‘it’ girl is wearing on every day of the week.

You know what they say on New Year's, 'out with the old, in with the new'. Here's what we want chucked out in 2018 as we start anew...

Out with...

Everything declared to be ‘stunning’ or ‘goals’ on Instagram

In with...

Well thought-out captions written especially for an image that has impact

There are other words in the thesaurus, you know.

Out with...

People wearing ‘hot-off-the-catwalk’ designs on the red carpet at fashion week

In with...

The valiant few who mix and match from their own wardrobes to make red carpet statements.

Hot off the catwalk designs borrowed from designers don’t impress us. People who wear their own clothes and have personal style do. Also, they’re more hygienic.

Out with...

Making a huge deal every time a designer decides to have a solo show.

In with...

A fashion show that gives out a message, delivers an experience and follows a distinctive aesthetic.

Let’s all pause and thank God for Ali Xeeshan.

Out with...

Raving over Sana Safinaz’s anglicised takes on luxury-wear.

In with...

Sana Safinaz’s bridals

The former seems to be just for the red carpet, only being seen by ‘it’ girls and celebrities who’ve simply decided to do a bit of borrowing. The latter just put out a spectacular show at fashion week and shows precisely why the designer duo rule the roost.

Out with...

Videos of sales at Sapphire and Agha Noor where women break through the doors, scream, shout and manhandle salesmen in their enthusiasm.

In with...

High-street players like Daaman and Ego quietly managing to sell out stock at full price.

Because crowds are bound to go haywire when you slash off profits and sell stock at cost price.

Out with...

Big glossy mega-stores for ready-to-wear

In with...

Small but savvy stores

Size really doesn’t matter. Good fashion does.

Out with...

Peplums, pastel-colored bridals, beads, pearls

In with...

Everything other than the above

We never ever want to see them again.

Out with...

Designer lawn

In with...

Block-prints, color blocks, single shirt pieces and the many, many options at Aashiana

The ‘designer lawn’ just gives you an excuse to charge more money doesn’t it? And we don’t want to be seen wearing the same busy outfit as a trillion other women.

Out with...

The ‘international’ lawn shoot with an ‘international’ model

In with...

The innovative shoot with a local model, maybe in a studio or a scenic locale

We know you like going to Europe, designers, but we’re tired of it now. Be creative.

Out with...

The ‘it’ wedding all over social media

In with...

Attending an ‘it’ wedding

You get to eat food when you actually attend the wedding. Besides, we really don’t want to be assaulted by videos of the bride’s aunts fumbling with their dance moves.

Out with...

The lawn party where everyone turns up wearing designs from the lawn

In with...

Lawns that sell well

So what if you sent two dozen stitched outfits to socialites so that they could stalk about in them at your party? It still didn’t bring in the sales.

Out with...

Going into raptures every time Faraz Manan is seen with Kareena Kapoor.

In with...

Regular people wearing Faraz Manan’s wedding-wear

So he’s friends with Kareena Kapoor. We got over that five years ago. Can we move on to acknowledging the way he’s steadily built his business?

Out with...

Designers going to ‘international’ fashion shows

In with...

The few designers who have an actual international market

We don’t care if you’ve been part of a charity event abroad if you didn’t get to do any business while you’re there. Enjoy your free trip to Europe but you’re not fooling anyone when you boast about it.
