There's no meaning to any of this, says Jim Carrey on New York Fashion Week

Jim Carrey, known for his eccentric humour, was less than amused at the Harper's Bazaar's party celebrating icons at the kick-off of New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Friday.

In an interview with a E! News, Carrey said something very deep, something a lot of us might be thinking when we see ostentatious and elaborate events surrounding the glamour world.

"There’s no meaning to any of this," he told the reporter.

"I just wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join, and here I am," he said, referring to NYFW. "You've got to admit, this is completely meaningless."

To which, the reporter, in her attempt to find a meaning in the conversation (pun intended), asked Carrey if he believed in icons, people who inspire others, as that's what they were celebrating Friday night.

"I don't believe in icons. I don't believe in personalities," he said. "I believe that peace lies beyond personalities, beyond invention and disguise, beyond the red 'S' you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off," he said.

To those who didn't know and were completely baffled about what red 'S' he was talking about, Carrey was referring to a commencement speech he gave at the Maharishi University of Management in Iowa in 2014 where he was bestowed an honorary doctorate for his achievements in the arts. The facility prides itself in offering a "consciousness-based education."

"I don't care," he added, after another pause.

Carrey wore a groovy patterned, metallic blue-and-black suit to the event, which begged the standard question every reporter at style events asks.

"But Jim you did get dressed up, I mean... You look good," the reporter insisted, trying to understand the connection between Carrey's presence at the party and his sheer disinterest in it.

"I didn't get dressed up," he said. "There is no me. There's just things happening."

This world, he added, is "not our world."

"We don't matter," he said.

Maybe the media-shy actor was channelling his inner Bruce Almighty on the red carpet or maybe, he was actually telling us what lies behind the mask... Rest assured, the actor did leave everyone in the industry quite intrigued.
