Is Leonardo DiCaprio being eyed to play the Joker?

This just in and it's no laughing matter: There is an origin movie of the classic Batman villain, The Joker in the works.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has tapped The Hangover filmmaker Todd Phillips to co-write and possibly direct the flick, which is set to be separate from the DC Extended Universe.

And now rumour has it that Leonardo DiCaprio is first choice to portray the classic Batman villain.

Suspicions arose after iconic American director Martin Scorsese was listed among the film’s producers. Scorsese has frequently collaborated with DiCaprio in the past where the two have made very successful films including, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Not convinced?

Digital artist BossLogic has delivered a fan art rendering – giving us a better idea of what Leo as the Gotham antagonist could look like and we're kind of digging it!

That being said, this is not official news yet but merely insider talk about the studio’s intention. The chances of DiCaprio joining the project are “slim to none,” and in fact, Scorsese is not officially attached to the project yet either.

However, that hasn't stopped fans from giving their two cents!

Some fans could see the Oscar winner as the comic book baddie...

Others not so much...
