Anne Hathaway will play the protagonist in upcoming Barbie movie: reports

Sony Pictures is on a hunt for a lead actor to play the protagonist in its upcoming live-action movie Barbie after Amy Schumer's scheduling conflicts couldn't get sorted.

Anne Hathaway will likely replace Schumer in the lead role, Variety reported.

However, casting is still premature as scheduling arrangements have not been worked out, studio reps said.

The Barbie movie is said to be in the vein of pre-millennium rom-coms such as Splash, Enchanted and Big. In it, the protagonist gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure.

Sony still intends to stick to its projected June 29, 2018 release date, though it’s not clear when production would start.
