9 style trends you need to nail in 2017

As the old cliché goes - new year, new start.

Will bralets, which littered international runways make their way to Pakistan? Are statement sleeves here to stay? These are just some of the few big fashion queries we have as we get comfortable with 2017.

While we shared what trends you should bid farewell to this year earlier, now here's our guide to what you should be wearing. Take notes now, ladies.

1) Statement sleeves

We love an outfit with a dabble of difference and the statement sleeve is what's caught our attention these days.

You can play around with yourself and go for ruffles, poof or some good ol' dreamy flair

These vintage-inspired pieces have emerged as a durable trend in recent months; we love this one especially because it's easy to wear and comfortable because we know not all trends are (ahem we're looking at you, off-shoulder tops!)

Get your hands on one of these tops from Concrete Unicorn and jump onto this bandwagon.

2) Neon

The 80s are coming back in a big way. At least that's what we gathered from looking for inspiration at New York Fashion Week 2016. Splashes of electric neon colours were popping up everywhere there, on streetwear to slips.

Don't overdo this one because you'll risk looking like a human highlighter

Just remember, a little goes a long way, No matching neon separates please!

We spotted hints of neon at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week earlier last year in everyone's collection, from Nomi Ansari to Ali Xeeshan and Sana Safinaz. Go splurge and get on trend.

3) Bold earrings

Things that garner Instagram likes: decadent, over-the-top ear candy that’s worth its weight in social media gold.

Big earrings can jazz up any boring outfit

Not over big, bold statement earrings yet? Fortunately, larger than life baubles are still very much on trend.

We especially love bling from Esfir Jewels and of course, an old favourite which is Outhouse.

4) Bomber jackets

The bomber recently took over the fashion world but this year, it's back with a new twist in unusual colors and fresh silhouettes. Whether oversized or embroidered, it’s all about the details in 2017.

Bomber jackets are effortless and chic

Throw one on over a simple white tee and ripped jeans, and you're set. Bonus points if you're rocking one with your name on it, like Maya Ali (pictured above).

Many online pages on Facebook customize bomber jackets and House of Aphrodite and Mantra also stock some quirky ones.

5) One-shoulder tops + dresses

We didn’t invent one-shoulder dressing simply because we’re desperate for an alternative to the now supersaturated off-the-shoulder and cold shoulder trend.

These are a great way to show off a little skin because you know what? No woman hates her shoulders!

Like neon, it's a trend from the 80s that was just itching to be back, waiting for us tor revive it. And it's perfect for the winter because you're not flaunting too much but just enough.

If you're brave enough to give this a go, Maheen Karim is doing some great partywear that's on point .

6) Lingerie inspired clothing

Sorry, mom. This year, we're breaking a cardinal fashion rule and exposing our innerwear.

Not for the faint-hearted

From slinky slip dresses, silk robes to bralets, lingerie inspired clothing screams less is more. Dainty pieces like lace black bralets paired with sleeveless rocker tees and silk camisoles on top of distressed jeans will land you on all the right best-dressed lists this year.

We recently spotted some effortless silk tank tops at Mango; time to make a trip to Dolmen Mall!

7) Metallics

In the immortal words of Rihanna, shine bright like a diamond.

Don't be afraid to shine bright; it's like highlighter for your clothes

Every now and then, we see outfits on the red carpet injected with a shot of glitz thanks to some flashy, not trashy, twists on the metallic trend and we love it. This one's a tricky one so maybe start small, like with a pair of shiny metallic slip-ons and work your way up or if you're feeling daring, try these Forever 21 metallic leggings.

8) Ethical fashion

If you don't already know, in which case you've been living under a rock. ethical fashion represents a moral approach to the design, sourcing and manufacture of clothing which maximises benefits to people and communities while minimising impact on the environment.

Not to mention, fashion and philanthropy also go hand in hand

Using fashion as a force for good is all the rage now; we can't turn a blind eye to the consequences of our actions. Some Pakistani designers like Zara Shahjehan ran campaigns last year showcasing the people behind her brand, the tailors, giving us a glimpse into her workshop.

That being said, remember that if we become more conscious as consumers, the movers and shakers of the industry will have no choice but to practice a socially responsible work ethic. Let's make it happen!

9) Stripes

We know, we know, nothing revolutionary here but hear us out. Stripes don't have to be boring.

Time and time again, stripes grace on the catwalk, resurface on talk shows and permeate the street style wardrobes of Instagram influencers and this year is no exception. Clashing colors? Go for it! Outrageous print medleys? Why not!

If it's good enough for Amo B, it's good enough for us!
