Here's what happened when a Muslim comedian sat next to Eric Trump on a plane

On a six-and-a-half-hour long flight, American Muslim comedian Mohammad "Mo" Amer coincidentally found himself seated next to Donald Trump's son Eric Trump, here's what followed:

Amer had to book a last minute flight on December 1 to Glasgow, Scotland when he received an upgrade to first class and found himself seated next to Eric Trump.

He tells Buzzfeed of the incident, "I was just walking in and he was just sitting there with his Trump shirt on and I was like, ‘Is this real’? Is this real? Is this a setup? I mean, I’m an Arab Palestinian, everything is a conspiracy, right? So when I walked into the plane I was like, 'What is this?' This is obviously from Allah, Allah is just trying to hook me up right now. That’s what’s happening"

The comedian couldn't resist taking a selfie with Eric and posted it on social media with the caption: "Sometimes God just sends you the material."

As soon as he sat next to him, Amer introduced himself: "When I sat down I said, 'How you doing?' Trump says, 'I’m doing good.' And I said, 'You have no idea how fantastic this is for me right now. My name is Mohammed. Salams. I’m a stand-up comedian. This is fantastic for me.'"

This exchange of pleasantries was all it took for him to dive right into what was really bothered him: the rumour on Muslim registries. Reportedly, Donald Trump has called for a ban on Muslims travelling to the U.S. and proposed a registry for Muslims residing in the country.

"I looked at him immediately and said, 'Look man, FYI I’m not doing that sh-t.' He’s like, 'what?' I said, 'I’m not going to get a Muslim ID number, bullsh-t I’m not doing it."

Eric replied saying, "That’s not gonna happen. Come on man, you can’t believe everything that you read."

Delighted, Amer shared the good news on Facebook and wrote, "Good news guys Muslims will not have to check-in and get IDs. That’s what I was told."

The two got talking about Donald Trump and how he was able to play the media 'like a fiddle' and to Amer's surprise, Eric agrees!

"That’s what he told me. He basically acknowledged the fact that his father played this thing like a mad genius and that’s how he got elected and he admitted it," says Amer.

As the conversation continued, moving from Trump's plans to Hillary Clinton, Amer slowly realised the kind of person Eric Trump was. "I just felt he was a robot, in the sense this guy has a routine that has been there since he was 6. I believe his dad raised him super old-school and that’s the feeling I got from him. He’s flying first-class to Scotland for a day, checking in on their golf course, going in and talking to them. This guy is all about business."

The comedian adds, "He also seemed disconnected from the reality of race attacks and violence. The vibe that I got, this was a game to them and they had no regrets and they did it to win and they will most likely keep doing it."

During their conversation, Eric asked Amer to "take it easy" on the Trumps and to ask other comedians such as Dave Chappelle to do the same. Amer refused. "I was like, you can’t do that, that’s not what we do," he says. "It’s our job essentially to scrutinize the king."

In fact, when asked on social media why he sat next to Donald Trump's son, Amer replied with: "I’m not running away from anything.

"As a comedian it’s my responsibility, it’s my duty, to find out as much information as possible to provide an accurate commentary. So for me it’s like I’m not rejecting a gift from the divine. Are you kidding me? ‘I just gave it to you on a platter. Do you want to deny this whole situation?‘ Of course not, I’m gonna jump right in."

Amer recalls the overall interaction to be pleasant. However, he has decided to take this 'gift from God' and use the material for his upcoming Human Appeal Comedy Show.
