I felt so rusty: Juhi Chawla opens up about doing her first item number

First Madhuri, now her; it looks like all our favourite 90s actors are making a comeback with a bang!

Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla has been in showbiz for a long time now but shockingly, has never done an item number.

Well, better late than never.

In an interview with DNA, the actress revealed how her extended cameo role, coupled with an item number performance, in upcoming Kannada (South India) film Pushpaka Vimana challenged her and pushed her to try something new.

“Any work that I take up now is something I feel excited about. I feel that if it’s worthy of my time and I'll be presented in the right way, then I go ahead and do it,” shared the 48-year-old actress.

But she didn’t readily jumping on the bandwagon: “My reaction to the offer initially was what would I be doing in an item song? I'd never done an item song; it wasn't quite my forte. But then they explained why they wanted me to do it,” she explained.

"This particular film is set in the 80s-90s and it showcases a function of a Hindi movie star during that time in a jail to celebrate an annual day function, so I'm there as a movie star, playing myself."

She adds, “I danced after a long time! They didn’t tell me I was dancing but gave me a reference where I’d look cool and strum a guitar, which I thought was quite easy and then when I got there, they started teaching me dance steps! After two shots, I was like, ‘God feel rusty’ but then I got into it!"

Chawla states the lyrics of the item song are "inspiring."

“[The lyrics] are about encouragement, having faith and about life. The song also tells conveys that there is no reason to be scared.”

With Madhuri having done an item song Ghaghra in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, we can’t wait to see how Juhi Chawla looks in her item number. Looks like all our favourite 90s actors are making a comeback with a bang!
