Going loco for local: Khaso Aam’s Fruity Bites will send you to snack heaven
I must preface this review by saying that I do not like falsa. It’s important to mention that, because Khaso Aam somehow persuaded me to actually like it.
Khaso Aam is a Karachi-based brand that makes candy-like jelly from fruit called Fruity Bites. I had the opportunity to taste all of their flavours at the Bohra Food Festival in Karachi earlier in the year and ended up buying a couple of packets for myself.
When I say it’s like jelly, I mean a mix between Fruit Rollups and soft dry fruit. The consistency is great — it’s not too thin that it feels insubstantial and it’s not too thick that it feels like a wad of jelly in your mouth.
Khaso Aam says its products are all natural with no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives. I can’t vouch for how natural their products are, but I do enjoy the taste. My favourites are the falsa and spicy mango flavours, though the others were good too. Both flavours were sweet with a bit of a tangy kick.
A 100g packet is available on the brand’s website for Rs499 but there are several bundles that bring the price down a bit. There’s also a Rs200 delivery fee, so I’d keep that in mind when ordering. One other thing to keep in mind — this snack is something that’s very easy to gobble down. You start having one or two and end up finishing the packet in a single day!
While Khaso Aam’s products are a bit on the steeper side when it comes to snacks — and they’re not available in stores so there’s the added inconvenience of ordering them online — in my opinion, the taste more than makes up for it.
