Indian cinema owners refuse to screen films with Pakistani actors

Does this mean Fawad Khan's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is in trouble? Seems like it
14 Oct, 2016

After passing through the censor board without the removal of Fawad Khan's scenes, Karan Johar's upcoming release Ae DIl Hai Mushkil runs itself into a roadblock.

Latest reports state that Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) came to a decision on Friday stating that they will not screen films with Pakistani actors in India.

KJo's ADHM, which is slated to release in the next couple of weeks, may see a problem, along with Shah Rukh Khan's Raees starring Mahira Khan.

After the meeting concluded, COEAI president Nitin Datar said, "It was decided that keeping in mind the patriotic feelings and national interest, we have requested all member exhibitors to refrain from screening movies which have involvement of any Pakistani artiste, technician, director or music director."

He further added, "We are also in the process of requesting other associations connected with the film industry to support the sentiments in the best interest of our nation."

Earlier Hindu right wing party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had threatened Pakistani artists to leave India. However, The Hindu reports that no such stand has been taken thus far to revoke visas of Pakistani artists.

"There is no movement to revoke visas of Pakistani artists as of now. We don’t go for knee-jerk reactions," said a senior Home Ministry official.

"We don't go for knee jerk reactions". The minister clearly doesn't understand the meaning of that idiom.

That is a welcome move. The business owners need to make decisions and then there will be no need of politicians and government making these kind of decisions

I appreciate the move, but eventually INDIAN producers are going to lose their money due to one foreign actor who took his fee and returned back to his country.

What about the hard work of Ranbir, Anushka, and Aishwarya? they deserve to have the film released. I can't believe they could take such a stupid step and ruin their hard work. India has no sense at all!! I hope in the future things get better and all but I really want to watch this movie not because Fawad but because it has good star cast and the director and songs are so good!!! I don't care if its an Indian film I still want to watch it!!

Looks like the only way Pakistani actors can be part of Indian cinema is if they migrate to India and become Indian citizens like Adnan Sami.

Will it open these artistes' eyes? Maybe. Will they stop trying to trade grace and respect for money? Likely not.

Indians will not see the movies where Pakistani actors are acting. In India we give more value to the nationality compared to the religion. Most of the top Indian actors in films are Indian Muslims. They also have very high patriotism. I fully support the decision of film makers and cinema hall owners.

Being a patriotic Indian, I am happy that this step is being taken. I now pray that all Indians (of all religions) do not go to see this movie at all. Why I like this step is because these actors have usurped the roles of budding Indian actors, who could have got a chance to act in such a film.

This is an insane decision. These movies were made when modi & nawaz were having tea in Islamabad. Who knows the relation between these two neighbor countries going from bad to worst. At least, already completed movies should allowed to release otherwise many of our people will bankrupt not pakistani..
