Music producer Sharif Awan has been given a gold medal at the Global Music Award for his album Indus Raag — Music Beyond Borders classical music heritage of the subcontinent, says a press release.

He is one of the nine gold medallists (from all over the world) in different music categories. The awards were announced in California on June 16. It is for the first time that a Pakistani album and a producer have featured at such an international competition. Indus Raag was also shortlisted as Pakistan’s first Grammy entry in the 57th Grammy Awards in 2014, adds the press release.

Great achievement and pride for Pakistan. If one hand Taliban damaging our world image and the other way people like Sharameen, Sharif, Rahat Fateh Ali bringing good name to country. It means so far Music has won the race.
