Where there is love, there are fights: Rahat Fateh Ali says Pak-India tiffs are only natural

Little fights and arguments are a part of life. It doesn't mean that it will end all relations, he said

From Shiv Sena's hostility towards Pakistanis working in India to Modi's surprise visit to Lahore, Pak-India relations have seen its share of ups and downs this year.

And qawwali singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan puts it down to a case of squabbling brothers.

"Where there is love, there are fights too," he said to The Statesman. "Take for instance, a home where two brothers live together. They argue and fight... So, little fights, arguments, and tensions are a part of life... It doesn't mean that it will end all relations, feelings and emotions. Yes, families might part ways into separate homes but love never dies between them."

The qawwal went on to say that music and sports can create harmony between the two countries:

"Sport [...] is going through a downturn. But it should be started again. India and Pakistan should play again. Both the nations should set the balls rolling and face each other on the playground once again."

He continued, "Music has always done its bit. It has always spread out positivity and tried to cool down things. And music will continue to do so, Inshallah!"

Rahat's next song is part of the soundtrack of Bollywood film Jugni, for which his qawwali has been modified using the rubab.

"It’s really melodious when heard and it brings a hint of spirituality or you can say an element of 'rohaaniyat', which slowly reaches your soul. 'Ek lagan, ek junoon hai... and that is the attraction of the song," he shared.

What he said is true, but it shouldnt come out of his mouth. He is earning millions across the border. It should come from indian leadership in lok sabha or pakistani leadership in parliament. Enough of these people talking who have no control over affairs of state

Indeed there is...that is why we had lived together for thousand of years happily..But unfortunately fell in British trap...we fought 1857 struggle together and almost expelled the British from subcontinent ; though we couldn't..British then realised they couldn't fight us together and they started their "Divide and rule" program...By the time they left us, it was not possible to contain the poison that had already been deeply spreaded for their vested interests..and they finally left us DIVIDED...!! Hope we could understand it and our strength together if united again..Hope we could not pain the departed souls of our forefathers who had lived joyfully on this land together.. With this note I wish all my Pakistani friends a very happy and prosperous new year....!!! - just could not stop speaking my heart out...!!

More people to people contacts should take place and these should be encouraged through state policy. I am looking forward to visiting Pakistan as a tourist in my lifetime. Political leadership should de-demonise the people of the other country.

Nothing called love. You only love Indian money and India to settle down.

We all here for a short period of time and our roots are spread all over both countries. There will always be evil people trying to keep the wedge against each other. But we the people should look at each other as a human being first than anything else. Neither religion teaches us to hate one another wish one day people can travel each other country freely, Love India and people and by the way I am from Pakistan. Happy New Year to all, may the 2016 bring the peace and joy for both country.

""Where there is love, there are fights too," Really! Really! The basis of this FIGHT in not LOVE. It is hatred. First overcome the hatred, by engaging in sports, academic and cultural exchange, etc. Only then ..

Are really the whole Pakistan and whole India brother? It is a positive statement but please think out of the box. Pakistan Punjabi and Sindhi population are of same ethnic group of India counterpart, and not anybody else in India. That is the problem with Bangladeshi population. Indian subcontinent mostly are close o each other based on language and culture, and to some extent on the religion on surface.

@Rajesh Mehra Your feelings appreciated. But I think despite historical facts and what led to SA communities hating each other we need to understand our issues that divide us and their solutions. We can not simply shrug our shoulders and identify foreigners as the cause of rifts among us when 'divide & rule' is a formula naturally embedded in humans so that we all apply it on others whenever we can. To avoid being victims to this ugly mechanism we should try and eliminate our internal issues that divide us.

Love comes after friendship friend so let us talk friendship first. Continuation of good relationship cannot be guaranteed because a small teaser takes the relationship back very fast. The best thing to do is to make a No War Pact for at least 10 years & during this these years solve all out standing problems peacefully.
