Film 'Maalik' is as much about the military as it is about politics in Pakistan

The concept of Maalik is owning our country as citizens, says lead actor Farhan Ali Agha
Updated 27 Oct, 2015

From its initial trailers, Ashir Azeem's Maalik may appear to be steeped in the convoluted world of political intrigue. But the film won't skimp on the action.

This was revealed by the film's lead cast member, Farhan Ali Agha, who plays a Major (and later a Colonel) of the Army Special Forces in the film.

Farhan shared behind-the-scenes photos of actors in army gear, which reveals the film's military angle.

Ashir Azeem of Dhuwan fame has penned a script that brings together politics and the military, and plants a family drama in their midst.

The earlier released teasers only had a few shots of the ASF

"The concept of Maalik [is] owning [our] country as citizens, realising [that] there's so much more going on than just safeguarding territory in the form of economic or political corruption. Ashir has written it well," Farhan shared about the film.

The film is planned for a 2016 release.

I don't know. Looks weak. Has a Pakistani drama serial feel to it.

Saw the trailer. Theme looks like the same as Naseerudin Shah's movie 'Wednesday".

Sounds promising, talented actors and story seems realistic rather than western-copied fiction.

@GA I think a good script define a good film, and a very good story can be made without sexy dances.

Digital technology has made almost everyone a filmmaker these days. But tools don't make the carpenter.

@GA. Even Pakistani dramas are way better than our neighboring India's dramas. So the net result is that the movie will be worth watching.

Aashir was genius behind the famous PTV Drama "Dhua'n" . I am sure if he has worked based on his instincts, this film could have been a true blockbuster. Best wishes for him and his team.

Another upcoming film to look forward to! Love the fact that he diversity of Pakistani cinema stems from genre to genre. Also those who comment and instantly state that any film in question is a copy of a Bollywood film please stop!! The fact is these comparisons and opinions have constantly proven to be wrong! Na Maloom Afraad was apparently going to be a copy of Phir Hera Pheri! It wasn't!! Jawani Phir Nahi Ani was apparently going to be a copy of Masti! It wasn't!! Have some faith in the fact that your cinema has the ability to create originality!!

Image is everything. You have to do this every year to justify the military expenditure.
