Five weekends in and The Legend of Maula Jatt is still going strong — strong enough to seat itself atop the peak of success. The movie is reportedly the highest grossing film from the Indian subcontinent at the UK box office in the past four years.

According to British film publication Screen Daily, Maula Jatt, released by Moviegoers Entertainment, accumulated £44,149 (Rs11.5 million) on its fifth weekend. Its performance has dropped considerably lower than many competitors as its run continues at 54.6 per cent, bringing the film to almost £1.3m (Rs340 million). That’s more than the £1.26m (Rs329 million) of this year’s Indian title Ponniyan Selvan: I.

The Legend of Maula Jatt has become the highest grossing Punjabi film globally — according to its official Instagram account, the film made $7.8 million (Rs1.7 billion) at the worldwide box office within four weeks of its release.

The movie has also outgrossed Bollywood films RRR starring Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Sidharth Malhotra’s Thank God at the UK box office despite having a lower screen count compared to the Bollywood ones.

The film released across cinemas worldwide on October 13. It is a reboot of the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt, reimagining Punjab’s own superhero for a world audience. The cast includes Fawad and Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi and Ali Azmat.

This Fawad reminds us of Shaan Shahid . he should not have gone scavenging to Bolly wood . he could have made it much bigger in Pak itself. at least now he has learnt a lesson.

Shouldn't that be called "Pakistani subcontinent", or at least "Asian subcontinent", according to Pakistani media?

Made one film which has captured some imagination of Pakistanis abroad in 75 years and so much talk and comparing it others, whose films are popular not only in UK USA but Africa, Russia, China, and many more countries. So much self praise and so much air…, Khab sudaroge? On Every issue behaving like a ostrich when the whole country is in turmoil economically, politically and socially.

The movie is reportedly the highest grossing film from the Indian subcontinent at the UK box office in the past four years. Its South Asia or South Asian subcontinent and not 'Indian subcontinent'. Get it right.

The film is epic, however there is only one USA educated brave film maker who understand that you put your top talent Fawad ,Mahira , Humza ,and Humania with a vision and unexpected casting , something good will results ! Do not copy BW film making with dance and signing, helped this film ! But Bilal L is only film maker, more are needed who think out of the box!

That’s an obsolete term as there are are other countries in the region. The politically correct term is Asian subcontinent.

It always is Indian Subcontinent. Anyhow, no body in the world cares about this movie except us. The others have got bigger issues than engaging in a duel with us over whose movie amassed more. Let's maintain our dignity and whatever is left of it.

British Indians love Pakistani movies. Meanwhile, Modi bans all things Pakistani. At least in Britain, Indians have the freedom to choose.

@John The Baptist "Shouldn't that be called "Pakistani subcontinent", or at least "Asian subcontinent", according to Pakistani media?" No. Indian Subcontinent is a viable geographical term, in place long before 1947. The term "Indian" here, does not imply it is owned by your nation state, so there is no problem.

Congrats to Maula Jatt for being the biggest grosser from the Indian Sub-continent in the last 4 years. This is the fruit of the policy of Musharraf who allowed Indian movie imports to help improve the capacity and skills of the local industry by increasing revenues from local cinemas. Same thing can happen to every industry in Pakistan of trade with India is opened up even a little bit. Think smart think beyond hate.

To those questioning why it is called Indian subcontinent instead of South Asian sub continent, you should also propose that the India Ocean should be called as South Asian Ocean.
