From Adnan Siddiqui to Maya Ali: Celebrities rejoice over SC verdict declaring Parvez Elahi the new Punjab CM

Many stars are hailing the verdict as a win for democracy.

Celebrities are rejoicing after last night’s Supreme Court verdict declaring Chaudhry Parvez Elahi the duly elected chief minister of Punjab. He secured 186 votes against the 179 of his opponent, PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz, in the July 22 run-off poll for the coveted office. The pending decision not only resulted in a meme-fest for Hamza but a moment of celebration for stars who rallied behind Elahi and had lent support in the past to ousted PM Imran Khan.

Taking to Twitter, Ye Dil Mera actor Adnan Siddiqui wrote, “Hail democracy! People’s faith has been restored. Hoping it’s upheld by the elected leaders.”

Actor Osman Khalid Butt shared his thoughts on the verdict in a slightly funnier way.

Comedian and actor Arsalan Naseer of Chupke Chupke jokingly suggested that Hamza should not worry and instead lock the doors of the office from inside.

Actor Muneeb Butt tweeted that it’s the “time to celebrate”.

“It was worth the wait for this great decision for Pakistan. Can’t be more happy to see this,” wrote Maya Ali on Instagram.

Morning show host Shaista Lodhi also took to her Instagram stories and shared a photo of herself by the TV where the breaking news was being played. “Justice is served,” she wrote.

Earlier today, President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to CM-designate Elahi at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad. Elahi will take office today and start off his duties as the new Punjab CM.

Hamza was asked to clear out soon after the decision was announced. The short order mentioned that Hamza was not a duly elected CM, the oath of office administered to him was without lawful authority and of no legal effect.

PDM instead of asking for formation of full bench should have asked for a larger bench of 5 or 7 judges but it insisted and persuaded for full bench which was illogical in any case. However, in case if a larger is eventually formed and such bench then uproots Hamza who is son of incumbent Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Shar in any case, then which bench from (a) plastic (b) wood (c) steel will happily be acceptable to Fazal, Maryam & rest is my very bold, loud and simple question to them? I request PML (N) PPP + Fazal and all those who voiced alike to please enlighten and educate me on bench instead of ignoring such burning question Those who have agitated against smaller bench have insulted 3 honorable judges including CJP as well and it is their real greatness to pocket insults and not slap contempt of court. Fazal, Maryam & rest who opposed the smaller bench, must have guts and courage to announce such boycott right before SC judges & not otherwise / exdiplomat@hotmail.com

All the rich are so happy there supporter are back in the govt.They will squeese the poor to finance the rich by putting pressure on PDM so prices for petrol can be reduced.Does a poor person even drive.
