Hamza Shehbaz won the Punjab CM election but Pakistani Twitter still can’t get over how it happened

Chaudhry Shujaat and his letter brought a shocking plot twist to the election, one that netizens didn't see coming.
23 Jul, 2022

There’s nothing people in Pakistan love to do more than comment on politics and when a game-changing moment occurred during the election for the Punjab chief minister, people turned their shock into memes. Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s letter ended up being the curveball no one anticipated.

In a shock result, PML-Q’s PTI-backed candidate Chaudhry Parvez Elahi lost the CM election to PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz on Friday, after Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari ruled that the PML-Q members’ votes were not counted in light of party head Hussain’s letter.

According to Mazari, Hamza received 179 votes whereas Elahi got 176 votes, but only after 10 votes from Elahi’s own party were not counted, which turned the tables in the former’s favour.

The ruling and consequent win left Pakistani Twitter in shock and they turned to memes to explain how everything went down.

In a nutshell.

Elahi’s emotions right now.

Well…

Some people’s family drama is more dramatic than other people’s family drama.

Plot twists can do that to you.

Netizens believe former Punjab CM Usman Buzdar may have a trick or two up his sleeve still.

Many were in awe of Asif Ali Zardari and his negotiating skills — and shocked that anyone let him meet Shujaat.

Others thought he could put his negotiating skills to use elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the rupee watching the showdown like.

So, as you can surmise, some major drama went down. But the PTI has said they won’t be giving up that easily — soon after the result was announced, PTI leader Asad Umar tweeted that the party would approach the Supreme Court against it.

Among many politicians Mr Zardari have an edge over other politicians to negotiate political deals with other head of political parties. PML-N after losing Punjab by-elections made a strategy how to over come the issue. The matter came under discussions and it was decided that let Mr Zardari alone handle and negotiate the deal with Chaudhry Shujaat Husssain and convince him to issue a letter not to vote for PTI candidate i.e. Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, though he is a leader of PML-Q and junior to PML-Q's President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. PML-Q remained intact with PTI till Imran Khan was ousted from govt. Political alliance are made and broken but let me write that till date politicians of Pakistan have not welcomed Imran Khan in their political club as Imran Khan is mentally not a politician but he a cricketer turned politician influenced by western culture and laws and want to implement dito laws in Pakistan, though it is not practically possible to implement or accept such laws.

How it happened? It is very simple. Imran got a verdict from the Supreme Court about the leader of a political party having the ultimate power over his part members to vote according to his wishes and got the vote of his party dissidents nullified and the defying members disqualified and denotified. Now, the same rule has been used by the party head of PML(Q) by writing to the Speaker about violation of his directive by his party members, thus getting their votes rejected. So, in short, Imran Khan has been given the same medicine, that he used to get Hamza Shehbaz out, by Ch Shujaat, to get Hamza Back at the helm again.

@Syed A. Mateen Are you sure Zardari is a politician? And these politicians have been running Pakistan for years. Perhaps, Pakistan was a developed and a shinning county under Zardari and Nawaz that we didn't know. The only edge Zardari has over other politicians is that he is more cruel then thieves and terrorists. You call him a politician? Good luck!.

Intelligence not emotion will end the commotion. Letter did not reach members. Party head is not shujaat. Can CM contestant Elahi be expected to vote against himself. Why have the contest then? Zardari shujaat nexus has destroyed PML-N and PML-Q and if SC support Hamza then 10 members must be de-seated and 10 more by-elections for PTI to win and Hamza faces another vote.

@M. Saeed Your statement is fundamentally wrong. In case of PTI, dissidents voilated the orders of PTI parliamentary party, not the party head, Imran Khan. And here also, the bases of pcase is that Ch. Shujaat cannot prevent Q League MPAs because Q League Parliamentary party is not stopping it.

@Syed A. Mateen why the laws which oppose corruption can't be implemented in Pakistan because that is what IK wants. I am not able to understand why pakistani people accept nawaz and zardari corruption as a normal thing ?? They know deep inside that these people are corrupt to the core but still favour them .
