As if a three-hour superhero film wasn't enough, Warner Bros. and DC announced that The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as Gotham's caped hero and Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman is going to be back with a sequel.

On Tuesday night at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of theatre owners and Hollywood studios, the production house confirmed that a sequel is indeed in works. “Matt Reeves, Rob Pattinson and the entire team will be taking audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2,” Warner Bros. movie chief Toby Emmerich revealed. While the second film was confirmed, no release date has been announced by the team.

The Batman released in early March and went on to be a box office success. According to The Hollywood Reporter it became the highest grossing film of 2022 so far with a total worldwide take of $759 million.

In the annual gathering the filmmaker began by thanking cinema owners for keeping the “flicker of hope” alive during the pandemic. Reeves expressed that he believes in theatrical experience and that “helping to play a role in your success is very important" to him.

“The success of The Batman was a true team effort. We could not have gotten to this place without … the theatrical experience. For that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. As a lifelong fan of the movies, I treasure what you do,” Reeves said. “There’s a sanctuary to be found in the movies,” he told the theatre owners and studios at the event.

But a sequel to the superhero film isn't enough for comic fans. According to Variety, just a few days after the release, the team and HBO Max had jumped straight to a limited series on The Penguin with Colin Farrell reprising his role. The spinoff series is said to be executive produced by Reeves himself, Dylan Clark, Farrell, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan and Lauren LeFranc, who will serve as showrunner.

In the superhit film, the Twilight star donned the cape and cowl for the first time as the iconic DC superhero. The film included Riddler, played by Paul Dano, and Oswald Cobblepot, aka Penguin, played by Farrell. Kravitz played Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, and Andy Serkis played Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler and mentor.

It was a good film but was not one entirely without plot holes. It had its fair share of shortcomings but a fresh break away from cgi-fest these superhero titles tend to be...on the look out for 2
