If you're a 90s kid, you are sure to have crossed paths with the Addams family and instantly been drawn to their dark, eccentric ways. Though all characters stood out, Wednesday Addams was the one who inspired many mood boards. After several film and TV adaptations of the family, Netflix is releasing Wednesday a series focusing on the Addams' daughter. Christina Ricci, who played the character in the 1991 film, has returned to the family — but she won't be reprising her role.

Netflix announced Ricci's joining and said she'll be playing "an exciting new character." Wednesday's role will be played by You and Jane the Virgin alum Jenna Ortega. Ricci's mystery character is yet to be revealed.

According to Variety, the eight-episode series is described as "a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy." Wednesday will be busy attempting to get control of her emerging psychic ability, saving the town by kicking some monster butt and solving a supernatural mystery that has troubled her parents for 25 years. All of this will transpir while Wednesday navigates her "new and very tangled relationships" at Nevermore.

Catherine Zeta-Jones will be playing Wednesday’s mother, Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán her father, Gomez Addams.

Wednesday is Al Gough and Miles Millar's creation, directed by Tim Burton. Gough, Millar and Burton executive produce alongside Andrew Mittman, Jonathan Glickman and Gail Berman who've worked on the previous adaptations of The Addams Family franchise.

The eccentric family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 and has had numerous onscreen iterations. The most notable version came in the 1990s with a pair of live-action films, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values starring Ricci, Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston and Christopher Lloyd.
