Palestinian-American model Gigi Hadid has pledged to donate her earnings from recent fashion shows to the people of Ukraine and Palestine. Her message was divided into two posts in which she shared multiple photos and wrote that she often presents new fashion collections during "heartbreaking and traumatic times in history", referring to the situation in Ukraine and Palestine.

In one post she mentioned that she is "pledging to donate" her earnings from Fall 2022 shows "to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine."

Hadid hoped that people "see each other as brothers and sisters", beyond politics, race, and religion. She also said that at the end of the day, innocent lives pay for war "not the leaders." The model ended her caption with an all caps "hands off Ukraine, hands off Palestine, peace, peace, peace."

Many names of the fashion industry left comments under her post, including ace designer Donatella Versace, Danish supermodel Helena Christensen, Palestinian-Canadian designer Leen Al Ghouti and model Mariacarla Boscono.

Hadid credited the idea to Argentine model Mica Arganaraz who last month had announced that she would be donating her earnings to people of both countries. She had urged all her model friends to follow her footsteps.

Just two days earlier Hadid's sister, Bella took to Instagram posted about the war as well. "If this is your first time realising a war in some years, you're not of the world," she wrote. She also spoke about Ukraine and wrote that while nothing should undermine the "magnitude of their suffering" or the violence against them, the same level of outrage and empathy isn't present for Muslim suffering.

"How many Muslim nations aflame? Invasions by the west, merciless drone strikes, executions, internment camps in China? How much of Palestine, how little of Palestine left?" she asked. Later that day she also posted a list of humanitarian relief organisations to support both war-ridden nations.

Many public figures have been raising their voices for Ukraine. Actors Mila Kunis, who was born in Ukraine, and Ashton Kutcher raised funds for refugees who fled the country. They launched a GoFundMe page where they were able to raise over$6.8 million on Friday and have now collected about $16.8 million for stranded Ukrainians.

Any help to the refugees is welcomed. Putin must account for crimes against humanity. He should be toppled.

It is telling that she cannot be as outspoken as her sister. I laude the attempt at linking Ukranian and Palestinian suffering, but time will tell if that narritive holds.

Who says fashion models don't care and don't think? Thank you Bella Hadid for a very intelligent gesture.

Brain and beuty are opposite sides of coin. Can't coexist. Please don't donate for war, donate for humanitarian assistance.

Whether it's Palestine, Indian occupied Kashmir, Syria, Yemen or Ukraine - the world needs to speak up for all the oppressed people equally and honestly.
