2016's Doctor Strange is back with an exciting new universe — or should we say universes — as the trailer features Strange opening up the doorway between universes, destroying the idea of a singular reality. Marvel Studio's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is releasing only in theatres on May 6 and it seems like an epic comeback for the doctor that will feature a crossover with WandaVision and possibly X-men.

The caption for the trailer reads, "The Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary."

The official teaser was released in Dec 2021 but the new footage seems to introduce the X-Men into the MCU. While they are not shown, the voice of what seems like Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is heard in the trailer, telling Benedict Cumberbatch (who plays Doctor Strange), “We should tell him the truth.”

The sequel also features the return of Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) for the first time since the Disney Plus series WandaVision.

While it has not been revealed how Professor X could be brought into the MCU, it is strongly suspected it will be due to the multiverse, as the doorway opens between a series of alternate worlds featuring Marvel characters, old and new.

According to The Verge, the movie looks to be the MCU’s biggest foray into alternate worlds and timelines that instalments like Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home have begun to explore.

The sequel stars Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.

The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.
