I will no longer do any projects in Murree, vows model Hasnain Lehri after 22 people freeze to death

He believes a boycott of the hill station can fix people profiting off a calamity.
11 Jan, 2022

On January 8, 22 people lost their lives in Murree. Over 1,000 cars were stuck in the snow and people froze to death after being unable to find shelter and food. Model Hasnain Lehri believes there's a mafia responsible for this.

Taking the matter to his Instagram Stories, the model wrote, "These people need to be fixed who abuse travellers and blackmail them in these harsh times. 50k for hotel room per night in Murree, due to which those Pakistanis who couldn't afford died in their cars."

He said that as a patriot, he will be "boycotting Murree until there is legal action against the mafias."

His boycott extends to working in the area as well. "As an artist who has been working to create visuals for as long as I can remember, I have made a decision along with my team members to not do any shoots or any projects in Murree."

He called out the "greediness of those that mask themselves as people [but] are actually Murree’s mafias". Lehri said he wants to unmask "Murree's mafia" and mentioned that such people will "not live to [profit off] dirty business" with the way they "allowed innocent and poor people to lose their lives in their cars in the absence of food and shelter, all due to mafia negligence."

He ended his stories with the hashtag Boycott Murree and said these people need to be taught a lesson.

Previously celebrities like Ayesha Omar, Adnan Siddiqui, Mahira Khan, Osman Khalid Butt, Meesha Shafi, Saba Qamar, Armeena Khan, Usman Mukhtar and Faysal Quraishi offered condolences for the departed souls and their families.

The incident is being investigated by a five-member committee formed by the Punjab government.

Good cause but no one cares and you are a nobody. The disaster is multifactorial and not as easy to explain as you have put it. Time will tell if you will be a man of your words since punishment will not be seen in the near future with our track record.

A lot of outsiders have purchased land in Murree and don't care about anything but profit. We need to find out by interviewing all those stuck in their cars what happened and who refused to help, those places should be shut down

Businesses exploit because the legal system has been failing Pakistan for generations. So called Islamic country is not able to provide fair trails in timely matter or come up with laws which protect its citizen from corruption is a hopeless state of affairs

Generalizations are the hallmark of underdeveloped people! I know from personal experience that the majority of Murree people are nice people. On the other hand, some tourists are very disrespectful, vulgar and dissolute!

Yes really we All should bycott Murree. No doubt Murre was very beautiful place but the people of Murre proved themselves as a greedy selfishness and harsh . In my opinion Gilgit Baltistan is one of the most beautiful place in all over the world and people of Gilgit Baltistan are very hospitable and as well as good so I will suggest all the tourist to come Gilgit Baltistan instead of Murre. In Gilgit you will enjoy as well as you will feel comfortable and safe...

Condolences do not work at all. Boycott of such mafia businesses would really hurt them. They need to be put out of business. Other celebrities and most importantly the general public should follow. Well done!

Agree, Boycott Murree for one year. So that all the greedy owners of hotels and businesses of Murree understand that when you become inhumane and have business practices that play with human lives, you will pay a heavy price. In addition, the government should come up with a policy that all hotels would be used free of cost if a calamity like this hits again so we prevent people from dying in the cold from frost bite, hypothermia, carbon monoxide poisoning and hunger. Just sad and extremely disappointed with businessman in Murree. Where is their spirit of humanity.

In comparison: There was another storm on the East Coast of US in the same time frame as Murree. In US folks got together and helped the stranded motorist on the highway. While in Murree people were busy gouging citizens and may very well be responsible for some deaths. It is a shameful behavior and they must be called out and charged if there was any law was broken.
