Hollywood-icon Audrey Hepburn is to be be the subject of Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino's latest biopic. American actor Rooney Mara will star as Hepburn.

The project is already in the works for Apple, confirmed Variety. Mara is producing the biopic alongside Guadagnino as well.

Hepburn is a celebrated British actor who starred in Hollywood classics like Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), My Fair Lady (1964), Charade (1963) and Sabrina (1954). The actor is one of the rare few to have won an Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy awards, the last of which she received posthumously, according to Variety.

Hepburn was also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador from 1989 to 1993 and is recognised for her humanitarian efforts and advocacy for children's rights in Africa, South America and Asia.

Fans are pretty excited about Mara being cast as Hepburn, calling it the perfect choice.

Some, however, feel that British-American actor Lilly Collins — who's playing Emily in the ongoing Netflix series Emily in Paris — might have been a better choice for the role.

Mara is known for her roles in 2011's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and 2015's Carol, movies for which she has been nominated for an Academy Award twice. Director Guadagnino won an Academy Award for Best Picture for directing and producing Call Me By Your Name in 2017.

Audrey Hepburn was one of the most beautiful women ever, the epitome of grace and pulchritude- I still remember her in 'Roman Holiday' when I was a young man. This Rooney Mara is by contrast as ugly as sin. Terrible but typical Hollywood casting.
