Yasir Hussain believes we have learnt nothing from Mohenjo Daro

The actor shared photos from his trip to the heritage site and his thoughts on what people are doing wrong.
07 Jan, 2022

Actor Yasir Hussain is known for calling a spade a spade and after a trip to heritage site Mohenjo Daro, he's upset that we haven't learnt anything.

Posing with a Rs20 note in front of the iconic Mohenjo Daro stupa, which is also featured on the note, Hussain wrote, "We only printed Mohenjo Daro's picture on our Rs20 note. We didn't learn anything. If we had made cities like this, today people from Europe would come here for tourism."

Giving his followers a short history lesson, Hussain said that in 2500 BC, there were trashcans in every street of the city. "Cleanliness is half of faith," he said, lamenting the state of cleanliness in Sindh.

Former model and current PR manager Frieha Altaf commented on his post and said, "I love Mohenjo Daro! We should be proud, we had sanitation, culture & civilisation 5000 yrs ago. We don’t have proper sanitation now."

Hussain's infant son Kabir also dropped by to say he wanted to go on the trip too.

When it comes to learning from history, we rarely take away the good lessons. Instead of modelling the good from previous generations (or civilisations), humanity often learns the wrong lessons and forgets what's important. In a country like Pakistan where sanitation and waste disposal is so poorly managed, we would do well to learn from an ancient civilisation that knew the importance of cleaning up.

(Former model and current PR manager Frieha Altaf commented on his post and said, "I love Mohenjo Daro! We should be proud, we had sanitation, culture & civilisation 5000 yrs ago. We don’t have proper sanitation now.") - Current Pakistan (including Sindh) is managed by Muslims and Mohenjo Daro was managed by Non-Muslims probably your ancestors, if you have courage to accept your ancestry.

Unfortunately, only indigenous people of our great Indus Valley civilization have a spiritual connection to Mohenjo-daro, Harappa, Gandhara, or Taxila. We Pakistanis have been brainwashed to believe that our history, culture, and ethnicity are associated with Arabs, Persians, or Afghans, as depicted in our flag, our Farsi national anthem, and all the names of the missiles!!!

There is no relationship between mohenjo daro & Pakistan. It was indic civilization & culture of ancient India. Pakistan is an extension of middle east.

@Ordinary Actually, Pakistan is a country of immigrants and the original people were wiped out. Therefore, Pakistani's have taken in the culture that was from their homeland, i.e mostly India. Even now, northern India is far worse in terms of trash picking than their southern counterparts.

Pakistan needs to publicise its heritage, having been there Mohenjendaro is a world class destination, on par with Egypt's pyramids. Yet very few people know about it outside Pakistan. Much of it is still requiring excavation, Tourist dollars can pay for its preservation and more.

What have Persian and Arabs got to do with Mohenjo Daro and the state of our cleanliness. I suppose the local Sindh authorities have no role to play in keeping the province clean? All our "leaders" are good for are slogans.

Harappa and Moenjadaro were first cities to have disturbed the natural cycle to recycle excrement back to the fields. They implemented a system that the West uses today - drain away human and animal waste to the sea. Today West is below replenishment and awaits a fate like the 2 cities. Lessons to be learnt. As poet Anwar Masood says so well. Ibrat ki ik chataank bar amad na ho saki, Culture ugal para hay manon Kay hisab say.

@Tanvir Khan Our national Anthem uses only those Persian words that are common place in Urdu as well. All fine Urdu poetry draws heavily from Persian and Arabic vocabulary.

The level of kachra and trash in our cities is disturbing. When you go outside, you don't feel like looking at your surroundings. I bet this is going to be like this even in 2050 and beyond. Some things just don't change here.

If I am correct, Indus Valley people were called Arya (civilised) of Persian area of sistan as sindh was part of sistan. Sindh was badly impacted by partition and there after priorities changed.
