Actor Juhi Chawla fined INR 2 million for her petition against 5G

The Delhi High Court served her a contempt notice for the "publicity" stunt.

Bollywood actor Juhi Chawla believes 5G should be "certified safe" before being rolled out for the public. She submitted a plea to the Delhi High Court against 5G but the court threw out the petition and fined her.

As India readied itself for a 5G launch, Chawla announced her concerns with the technology. She claimed 5G radiations can have ill effects on human beings and wanted the technology to be tested. She and two others, Veeresh Malik and Teena Vachani, filed a suit in the Delhi High Court where they argued that "it was an established scientific fact that a 5G release could be danger of imminent nature", despite there being no credible studies to back up this assertion.

The plea was turned down by the court. Justice JR Midha said said he believed the lawsuit was filed for publicity. The court also directed that a contempt notice be issued to Chawala and the others.

Bar and Bench, an online portal in India for legal news, reported that the court said, “Plaintiffs abused [the] process of law. Costs of Rs20 lakh is imposed on plaintiffs."

The portal quoted the court as saying the suit seemed to have been done for publicity. "Juhi Chawla circulated links of the hearing on social media. No case made out for leave to institute suit (under Section 80)...or to sue in representative capacity. Plaint is defective and not maintainable. There is no personal knowledge of averments. Plaint based on legal advise not maintainable. Matter is over. You have your legal remedies.”

Additionally, in its judgement, the court announced it had imposed a fine of INR 2 million on Chawla, Malik and Vachani for abusing the process of the law.

As the news broke, Indian memers were locked and loaded.

The belief that 5G technology can affect people's health is widely considered a conspiracy theory. Believing these conspiracy theories is dangerous and for Chawala, proved costly. Remember everyone, always get your news from reputed sources.

The court as said, the suit seemed to have been done for publicity. Then, why did the court decide a case, just as it seemed to it, without making sure??

not radiation but it will certainly lead to more mental stress. I suffered pyschosi, which is hearing of voices in your ears and mind. It is when you are mental weak, you start picking of wirless frequencies and voices, and start hearing voices that travell through airwaves from one to another local. Heavier data files more mental stress. Imagine throwing, cotton buds, then sticks and then stones and hits your head while move around. the sample examples to heavy data packets. 1st it was voice, then text now images videos and all other stuff is thrown around in the air, and it is polluted

A decision made in haste. There’s probably not tImuch precedent on this topic so the court should have done some expert review of the petition before setting up this precedent for similar future cases. The courts may not have the jurisdiction to determine the intention of plaintiff. The judgment should be based upon facts not on mere assumptions.

There are 110 connections per 100 citizens in India. World average is 104. Pakistan has 85.70. There should be study in India and all south Asian countries. The way cellular towers and networks are used so that signal never drops there has be a quantitative study on amount of radiation.

@Ali Mehdi, Issue was she did not make any efforts writing to authorities, experts, govt etc and filed a plea directly in the court.. another interesting thing is once the hearing was announced via online, shared that link on her Twitter handle and asked all her fans to join which is a bit bizarre..

Do your home work first. You have to approach the concerned department, ministry etc... and only if there is a dispute then go to court.

@Multani 5G is a wireless technical standard that has been jointly developed by many participants. It is NOT a Chinese technology. China is just one of the contributors in the technical standards. Get educated before making a fool of yourself by blindly singing China’s or anyone else’s praises.
