Frieha Altaf is the latest target of WhatsApp hackers
Former model and PR mogul Frieha Altaf is the latest victim of hackers.
A day earlier, she revealed that her WhatsApp account had been hacked and not only that, and that the scammer pretended to be a friend, tricking her into revealing a special code.
"Seriously upset! My WhatsApp got hacked and the person is messaging my friends! Guys watch out if someone even a friends number asks you for codes. Call your friend to verify if it’s them! They just want data. It happened to my buddy in Dubai and I got hacked," she posted on Twitter.
Speaking to Images on Tuesday, Altaf shared more details.
"I was WhatsApping a friend of mine in Dubai to get her address [...] and got a random message, which I usually ignore," said Altaf. During the communication, Altaf said she mistakenly sent a code to her friend's WhatsApp number but when she called her, it turned out that her friend's WhatsApp had been hacked.
"I had never heard of this before, and I didn't know what to do so I went online and checked it. Since I have two phones, I activated the app on another phone, updated my status and put up a story," she told Images, "so that people would know its not me."
"It's not just personal, WhatsApp is also work-related now so you can't have people receiving access to your messages etc."
She said she has deleted the application, and cautioned people to be careful.
Another public figure who recently went through the same ordeal was lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir, who also sent a code right before it happened.
Our advice to everyone: avoid sending codes altogether unless you can call and confirm first if it is a trusted recipient.
