Wickets tumble, Pakistanis crumble: Twitterati react to Pakistan's first innings against New Zealand

The lost were holding on to hope, but Haris Rauf had a fan-base of his own.
Updated 20 Dec, 2020

As Pakistan's wickets tumbled in the first 10 overs of the first Twenty20 International against New Zealand in Auckland on Friday, cricket fans were having a meltdown on Twitter.

With depleted squads, New Zealand and Pakistan clashed in the series opener at Eden Park, with the hosts without regular captain Kane Williamson, who is on paternity leave and strike bowler Trent Boult.

Pakistan were also without their regular captain and world’s second-ranked T20 batsman Babar Azam who was ruled out of the T20 series with a thumb injury suffered during practice in Queenstown last Sunday.

Wickets fell so quickly for Pakistan in the first innings that Pakistanis had a hard time wrapping their heads around 5 down for less than 50 runs!

Eventually, Pakistan set New Zealand a 154-run target — but not before Pakistanis had their say.

Some had cheeky observations

Are we masochists?

Yikes!

The lost were holding on to hope

While Haris Rauf had a fan base of his own

Babar was missed a lot

And some serious questions were asked

Fans just wanted Amir to take his retirement back

While Shoaib Akhtar was on a different tangent

Sarfraz should be sacked immediately. He's not captain material.

Great comeback by Pakistan, could have been different had two fielding lapses a missed 4 and a catch drop 6 thats 10 runs right here and now you add a wicket here meaning we were right back in the game with they needing 10 off last over anything possible

@Drone Is the Pakistani men's team playing the Women's World Cup. I'll give them a more than 50% chance. You just may be right.

Please have a look at what's going on in Adelaide, where 15 wickets fell on day two of the ongoing test match between Australia and Kohli led Indian XI?

I thought after Imran Khan came to power, Pakistan cricket team fortunes would change and it would be better than early 1990's Pakistan team but still my disappointment continues after looking at thier perfomances.

After the first 45 minutes of mayhem, Pakistan fought quite hard. The issue as usual seems to be 80% psychological and 20% technical. If Faheem had held that regulation catch, the match would have gone to the wire. Don't forget that NZ is super dangerous in their backyard, even with their younger guys, and our team is above average at best.

In fact, wickets fell more quickly and in a hurry, as the top media-hyped team in the world led by a selfish, eccentric, self-centered and ego-centric skipper got out for a trifle and meager score of 36 runs in the second inning against Australia during day three of the on-going first cricket test match against the hosts at the world famous Adelaide Cricket Stadium in Australia.
