AirSial, an all-new local airline, is about to begin domestic flights across Pakistan later this month – and it looks like the cabin crew is going to wear tailored designer-wear.

In an announcement on social media, the airline announced that the uniforms will be designed by Nomi Ansari.

Nomi, incidentally, is quite the expert at creating uniforms for aiirlines. The staff working in the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) currently wears Nomi Ansari, with the print of the headscarf created by another designer, Sania Maskatiya.

Now, AirSial will be another feather in his cap.

“I had been working on this project for a year now and the uniforms actually got done earlier this year, in April,” says the designer.

“But then, the airlines’ launch got delayed due to Covid. I made different variations and they shortlisted the design that they preferred. I wanted to give the uniforms a tailored look and select a color that was neutral and went with all skin tones.”

Nomi opted for a green, adding different colored pipings for differentiating the different crews, such as the cabin crew and the staff that would be working on ground.

“For the women, I have created a short shirt with three-quarter sleeves, paired with a jacket, cap and scarf. There are different prints for the scarves depending on what crew the staff member belongs to.

The scarf will be worn around the neck and if a woman wants to cover her head, there is a different pattern for her, with a cowl around the neck.”

The men’s uniform, says Nomi, is along similar simple lines but is currently undergoing a few tweaks.

What is it with Nomi and flight attendants’ uniforms? “It’s just a job that I am given to do and I put all my heart and soul into it. I am only supposed to provide one design but instead, I give options and add variations. I enjoy it,” says the designer.

Airsial??? Phew what a name for Malay speaking people of South East Asia where sial means taboo or simply unlucky or bad luck. I wouldn't fly in this airline. Don't you people not check out what some word would mean differently in other languages?

@momtaz Here we are referring to the City Sialkot, which has existed since times immemorial. This Airline belongs to the City. Lets not get carried away to find faults in everything and not wonder around into different languages or culture. Do you know the name of NATO Secy General? Its something which a body organ in Urdu and in our culture! Each for their own.

Iamnot hating thosb. It looks nice. But the pants look weird out of shape as if a student stitched it. Why not just make the classic ladies cut pants. They are wider at top and narrow going downwards. You can buy ladies pants in any international department store or ladies shop. Don't confuse with skinny jeans. Just Google it, Nomi. You'll know what I mean.

Sorry but don’t like the name “”AirSial” nor am I impressed with the Uniform or the colour of the fabric. The cap looks like something out of 70’s/80’s space movies and the trousers absolutely puke.
