Pakistani Twitter calls for action and accountability after attempted kidnapping of girl in KU

"They came to the car's window banging and screaming "get the girl out, stop the car, get out," Ali said, recalling the incident.
Updated 09 Oct, 2020

Recently, Syed Shaheer Ali, a Karachiite, shared a chilling account of being followed and harassed by a group of men inside the Karachi University (KU) campus.

He wrote about how the harassers on bikes chased him and his friends, demanding they hand over their female friend; all inside the university premises.

"As we ran and reached near the boys' hostel, they came again and surrounded us forcing me to stop the car. That's when they came to the car's window banging and screaming "Larki ko bahar nikaal, gaari roukk, bahar aa" (Get the girl out, stop the car, get out), he recounted.

While one cannot fathom the gravity of the consequences that would have followed if the harassers had managed to catch up with Ali, many on Twitter condemned the incident, exhausting their demands for safety, yet again:

The youth is fearful

Women's safety cannot wait

Some recalled their own experiences

Others raised questions on competence and compliance

Immediate action was demanded

Punish the culprits, they said

A state with all its resources is not able to nab the MW rape culprit and conveniently blames victim without any shame. So do you really expect something will be done in this case when according to THEM nothing really has happened?

@Nomi Goraya , Nothing is possible for the state until and unless vast majority of people cooperate for the good of the country and its people .

@rafiq Sorry as I completely disagree with this. Vast majority of people are always law abiding and it is the small percentage which is wrecking havoc to the majority. Here comes the state with all its power and all its might to nab and punish those criminals to keep the majority protected. No human society becomes pious at its own and you (state) have to act with all might to make examples out of criminals to give the law abiding majority feeling of safety. It is the state which makes laws and implement it as it has all the resources available, it is the state which educate the people and determine the direction of society. I am really sorry to say that our state has left our society to rot and fend for itself. How can a society evolve when we are not investing on it. This concept of self accountability is flawed in its very basic definition and state is using it as tool to hide behind it.

The sad part is that even the prestigious Universities are not safe for their students. What will the Police do ? An ordinary man ( not belonging to the elite circle ) after committing a heinous crime at motorway , is roaming free and the Police helplessly says ----oh , he slipped through our fingers .This sad incident will not do better on their efficiency graph.

How they got into the campus must be investigated. These culprits must severly punished and their crimes publicized. They are the enemies of PK and puts the country behind.

What were all the other students around doing? Usually this impunity is shown when high-ups at institutions themselves shelter such elements and thoughts.

Its a serious security lapses, though at exit gate guards are there but area is in complete darkness enveloped with heavy long bushes that gives the criminals safe passage to move around. The question still valid that how these gangster entered in University ? Who allowed them go with car without University Card, it means Guard himself were involved facilitating them. Entire Maskan road has no proper light thats the main exit / entry which is noticeable.

This all happens in a university when jealousy is involved in such friendships.

If you want real change then the silent majority needs to step out on the streets and make a statement. Encircle the parliament, PM house, Chief Justice house etc and block all roads until things move in the right direction. It is not the govt that makes the real change but instead it’s in the hands of the people. Where people don’t believe in themselves that country is doomed. Believe in yourself and fight for right. Until the govt is afraid of the might of the people, it will not make/take the right decisions. One cannot just sit home or talk on social media and expect things to change. Real change requires sacrifice, are people ready for it? If not then just get used to the criminals and the crime.

Culprits should be arrested and locked up and the keys thrown away. The verdicts handed out should be deterrent for others. I am definite these thugs belong to powerful families. I am KU alumni and very sad that these things are taking place.

Similar situation was happening in Canadian university, students council along with management made arrangements to have stronger students volunteer to roam in groups during different times and any student needing an escort could safely call them. It turned things around

So ladies are not safe on in cars on motorways. And now not in colleges or university campuses either? Oh wait they never were safe in this country. So I won't hold my breath for any change anytime soon because what is required is a general mentality change and for authorities, police, officials is to do their damn job and ensure these thugs and mafia don't run our society and country. But seeing as authorities are more concerned with the precious image control rather than ensuring we peoples are safe, this too will be swept under the rug as many incidents like this preciously.
