Renowned radio and television anchor Tariq Aziz passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84.

His programme Neelam Ghar - later renamed Tariq Aziz Show - went on for four decades, inspiring many, including a lot of our celebrities. After all, who can forget his iconic line, "Yeh water cooler aapka hua!"

Tributes started pouring in for the idol soon after:

Aziz wasn't just an accomplished TV host though. His first film, Insaniyat, was released in 1967. Other notable titles he acted in include Salgirah, Qasam Us Waqt Ki, Katari and Har Gaya Insan.

For his services to the entertainment industry, he was awarded the prestigious Pride of Performance Award by the government in 1992. Aziz dabbled in politics as well and was a member of the National Assembly from 1997-99.

May he rest in power.

Tariq Aziz was a multi-talented person which is difficult to find all the qualities in one person in the present time. We will always miss him on TV screen as for millions of viewers in the country he was like a family member who use to visit every home every week without fail, not only to teach the children, but also to elders with his wonderful thoughts which were full of wisdom. He remained as a good tutor for two generations during more than 40 years on PTV and many of his juniors have reached to the top positions in the media now. It is very unfortunate that the country have lost many senior personalities like Tariq Aziz and the gap of such people will never be filled during our lives. I wish if his juniors should make “Tariq Aziz Academy” so that the process of teaching and learning should never stop in the country. Today a great man have left all of us alone. While writing these words, I can’t stop my tears rolling down through my cheeks and I can’t see any thing more.

I recall the time in the mid ‘70s when my parents went to Nilam Ghar at the invitation of Tariq Aziz. My father, who used to tout that he can win the grand prize hands down, was eliminated early on when he couldn’t answer where Bolivia was located. We used to have fun at his expense!

Sad day for Pakistan, a legend is gone, but he will always live in our hearts. Dekhti Aankhoon aur Sunte Kanoo ko alwidah! I was fortunate to see him in 3rd grade in the studios of PTV Karachi when we were participating in a children's show, and he was waiting to do the weather show, I remembered, he came and said hello to all the children in such kind manner, I do not remember the name of the children's show, but I clearly remember him, such are legends.

We have lost a great legend. Nobody can match his unique style - an intellectual personality, a sea of knowledge, blessed with high end poetry and acting skills. RIP. Pakistan miss you.
