Irrfan Khan was going to star in a movie about a pandemic
Late veteran actor Irrfan Khan was scheduled to be in Anand Gandhi's next film about a pandemic, before his passing away left the world shattered.
Titled Emergence, the script was based on women scientists who were fighting a contagion.
“Irrfan and I drove to Pune once and became friends over the years... We explored the possibility of his presence in Tumbbad before the final script and schedule changed things. He’d have been in Emergence too. I wish I had created something with him,” said Anand.
The director also revealed that he had managed to get epidemiologist Larry Brilliant as the executive producer for the film, since he had worked on teams that helped eradicate small pox and polio.
“My script predicted the rise of rightwing politics, storage crisis for scientific data, paleomicrobe releasing from thawing of the Arctic and behavioural changes brought on by a pandemic.”
The 'big-budget' project was set to be in collaboration with an American studio.
Unfortunately, Irrfan was only able to work on one project after his diagnosis. He was last seen in Angrezi Medium which was his final theatrical release before his passing away.
