Sindh High Court summons Humayun Saeed over Meray Paas Tum Ho's offensive dialogues

In a petition filed by Sana Saleem, she claimed that the script routinely spotlighted offensive dialogues about women.
Updated 31 Jan, 2020

Meray Paas Tum Ho's lead actor, Humayun Saeed has been summoned by Sindh High Court over the problematic dialogues he delivered in the drama written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar.

In a petition filed by Sana Saleem, she alleged that the script routinely spotlighted offensive dialogues about women and wants an apology to the public for the same by MPTH's writer, actor and producer.

She also objected to the show portraying Karachi in a negative light, the infamous 'do takkay ki aurat' dialogue, featuring a couple living together without a nikaah as well as a six-year-old trying to set up his father and school teacher, among other things.

Lawyers on behalf of PEMRA and ARY were also present in court. The court questioned PEMRA's representative regarding whether they have a way of monitoring dramas through in-house censors. PEMRA's lawyer responded that they have a separate forum to do so, keeping in mind their policy that language and visuals in dramas should be within the moral code of society.

Saleem's lawyer, Munir Gilal said that they have approached the court so that PEMRA be given direction in such matters to which Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar replied that if they find objectionable dialogues and immoral discourse in the drama's content, they will not just give them direction but also take action.

While summoning Saeed, the actor who said the aforementioned dialogue, the court also instructed the federal government, PEMRA and other respondents to submit their replies. The hearing was adjourned to February 13.

This isn't the first time the show has gotten in legal trouble; another petition had been filed in a Lahore civil court earlier this month to halt the release of MPTH's double finale.

The petitioner, Maham Chaudhry stated that the drama serial had continuously insulted women, showing them to be worthless in society, adding that it has not been of benefit to Pakistani women.

However, that particular petition was dismissed by Judge Naila Ayub.

If judges want to meet the actor, they can call him at home. why waste court's time? Actor has got nothing to do with dialogues....he just deliver that. Call the script writer! and most importantly, stop media from the coverage of it.

Where are we heading. We need to take drama as a drama and not something which we need to take personally. Why are we dividing our society in terms of gender. Both man and women in this world can be good or bad and specific actions of one does not reflect on the others of the same catagory. If this goes on then we will kill both highlighting of issues and the courage to express them.

There was not presented any thing in MPTH drama serial which harmed our society norms. It was true reflection of society's those type of women, however its a small avg ratio but it exist. We should teach new gen girls the consequences of such behavior of a married woman. Im sure every one had experinced to see such couple/woman in their circle. Drama always reflects current society problems. In all pak's dramas nowadays writers presenting most of women a big lier, & conspirator. So we need to teach our youth to abide by ethical norms.
