Twitter slams Zartaj Gul for basically calling Lahore's smog fake news

That awkward moment when the Minister for Climate Change denies, well, climate change.
Updated 07 Nov, 2019

Zaratj Gul is convinced India is to blame for Punjab's toxic smog problem.

Last week, the Minister for Climate Change had said that "80% of the pollution is caused by India whereas 20% is from our side", calling the air quality data being shared online and from public initiatives as inauthentic.

She also recently shared a satellite image from NASA "showing the state of mass crop burning on the adjoining Indian side."

"Check the scale of flagrant acts on Indian side, and how mitigated practice is on our end. We're going to continue taking up this issue on international forums," she wrote.

Except, as Norbert Almedia pointed out, the photo is actually from November 2018...

In fact, Wednesday night was Lahore’s worst, most hazardous smog recorded so far this year; people are concerned and fed up and rightly so! All public and private schools were closed on Thursday; this is the first time that smog has forced closure of schools.

The awkward moment when the Minister for Climate Change calls climate change fake news.

Same!

Doesn't make it any better.

Where is the lie though?

The fact is, our farming practices in our Punjab are identical with Indian Punjab. Rest is all political mud-slinging.

Bravo! It only happens when you have incompetent people who are leading the departments.

Although a minister usually isn't a subject matter expert for their ministry, they must still be intelligent enough not to play in the hands or the ministerial officials/bureaucrats - just admit that there is an issue, get help from experts and communicated the truth to the people rather than going into a defensive mode

Stop denying it. Do something about it for our future generation. Most cities in Pakistan are on top of the list for highest pollution.

She isn't denying the existence of the smog, only blaming india for causing it or did I miss something? Every year indiscriminate burning of forests in Indonesia causes tons of smoke to be blown into Malaysia which reaches as far as Kuala Lumpur and is very noticeable.
