Sorry Firdous Jamal, Mahira Khan plans on staying in the industry till she can play a grandmother

The actress has responded to Jamal's ageist comments about how she's too old to be a heroine.
01 Aug, 2019

After penning a heartfelt note on Instagram to thank fans for all their support, Mahira Khan has broken her silence over Firdous Jamal's sexist comments about her.

On Saturday, a clip from Faysal Qureshi's show started doing the rounds on social media in which guest Jamal shared: "I'm sorry to say if someone likes it or not, but Mahira is not heroine stuff. She's a mediocre sort of a model, she's not a good actress and is not a heroine."

Thankfully, peers from within the fraternity stood up for Mahira.

The Raees actor addressed the debacle in a recent Independent Urdu interview.

When asked what she thinks of the controversy, Khan replied, "I have said what I wanted to say. I usually don't say anything because people always have something to say about public figures. We are actors, of course people would say something about us, be they senior actors or fellow actors or public in general."

"I think this case has blown up because of social media and also because the entire industry jumped to my defense," she added.

"I am extremely thankful to them because in times like these, you find out how the industry feels about you. I didn't know it before since I'm not close to most people in the industry like that so this really meant a lot to me."

"As far as my reaction to his comment is concerned, I see that it's an opinion and one thing which really needs to be done is we control ourselves and respect each other as artists. If we don't respect each other then we really shouldn't be pointing out how other people are trolling celebrities. I think we should set an example by respecting each other first."

The actor also reiterated that she has already played the character of a mother in Humsafar and would be more than happy to play it again. "I plan on staying in the industry till I'm playing a grandmother and even a great grandmother and I actually look forward to that," she threw in with a sassy smile.

Mahira is an outstanding actress who will rule the Pakistan film industry for a very long time, on the other hand Jamal will disappear from film industry sooner than he thinks.

Actor are also working to earn their living. Not everyone can be an actor on stage or films. It is also a matter o public acceptability. So, all must respect actors and their acceptability.

Firdous Jamal belongs to the league of legends such as Moin Akhter, JAmshed Ansari, Saleem Nasir, Uzma Gilani etc. His ageist comments about Mahira Khan is not acceptable but he has done so much good for the Drama and Film industries. His notable performances in dramas like Waris, Man chale ka sauda, Mehboob, Pyare Afzal etc. are considered as evergreen and nobody denies that. So stop this nonsense of humiliating your legends and learn to respect them. Artists like Firdous Jamal sahab are born once in many years.

It's imperative to say the world or let alone the world let's talk about Pakistan, we have so many things to have our minds wander about and still some people who might be out of, unaware of, untouched of things scattered around them give this Firdous-Mahira drama a boost. Well, my people there are enough things to see and cry alone after that in Pakistan , set aside a kid of age 5 holding up a shelf of wood with things to sell on a busiest road of Lahore.

Very mature reaction, to end the debate. I expect an apology from Firdaus Jamal. Our showbiz industry has definitely moved on from the Reema Meera days of petty bickering

Never heard of Firdous Jamal until his comment about Mahira Khan. I believe to degrade someone is an extremely shameful act., and anyone for that matter. I rarely watch movie or drama, but I had seen one of her drama and I was impressed with her acting talent. And I come from a period of Delip Kumar and Madhobala.

That is exactly what Firdous Jamal had suggested, i.e. do any role but not heroine. Why is the reporting suggesting as if FJ wanted her to leave the industry. He merely stated she is not heroine-material and now she agrees to continue to work in other capacities and provides evidence of her portrayal of a role in a similar capacity. So Firdous Jamal was right all along. The "headline" stating "Sorry Firdous Jamal Mahira Khan plans on staying...….." gives the wrong and incorrect impression of Firdous Jamal's statement. Don't twist facts to portray otherwise for extra clicks.

Firdous Jamal talked about acting skills … and it was his opinion … but in a good /toned manners "Mahira" twisted it toward "WOMEN RIGHTS." This maneuvering is not good and can't convince a sagacious. By having your social media following you cannot downgrade all time legend, the most honorable Firdous Jamal --- the legend --- our LEGEND.

Firdous Jamal just shared his opinion on acting skills of Mahira Khan but the tweet by Mahira suggests that some kind of "Women Rights" have been infringed. Please don't maneuver... you may have your own following and we respect it but nobody can downgrade Firdous Jamal … the all time legend... our LEGEND!

What's the big deal? Harsh reality is that women on screen have shorter shelf life than men all over the world. So no big deal if one states that. Even most iconic of Pakistani women, Madam Noor Jehan took an exit and ruled Lollywood from sidelines.

Firdous Jamal has spoke the universal truth, no matter how expensive the stop aging creams, or tablets are consumed, the aging can never be stopped. But still Firdous Jamal should have better ‘ no comments’ on personal appearance to Mahira Khan, as non of his business. The audience in love with Mahira certainly got a setback, after all much senior actresses like Priyanka Chopra are still performing best, let Mahira complete her best obsessions please.

First of all each artist has their own individuality ,today's yes, young women like mahira ,self made ,gone from strength to strength,in all her work ,stay positive ,compare to some artists we see ,who show so much attitude ,for doing just a little work ,not mahira, who had remain ,grounded, she is a gem of a person. You can not be a good artist until you are a good human being Power house of talent what SRK said about her, spot on description of mahira ! Superstar indeed!

Why do people say nonsensical stuff like this. Mahira is 34, she's still pretty young and carries herself very gracefully. Even when she reaches 40 she can take title roles as lead actress. New age / era has the age boundaries moved already, societies who used to get their men and women married in their 20s are now getting married from early to late 30s. World has changed, consequently norms have changed. 34 is very young.

Why can't we digest that the comments came from an industry veteran Firdous Jamal and not from just anyone, why all the hype? Guess Mahira and all the community should take it positively and work harder. What FJ said has weight in it.
