Move over LSA's, there's a new award show in town!

The All Pakistan Restaurant Association (APRA) has announced that they are gearing up for Pakistan's first ever restaurant awards.

In a press conference at Lal Qila, APRA revealed their jury members for the awards; Celebrity Chef Saadat, Chef Abdul Hadi, Sumeira Hussain, Dr Sadia Safdar and Ali Sultan.

There will be 20 awards to hand out, 5 of which will be decided by the jury and 15 will be Customer Choice Awards.

In a press release, APRA stated, "Beyond the trophies and glamor, the All Pakistan Restaurant Awards aim to recognize and acknowledge special features of restaurants including food and service excellence, outstanding dining and delivery experiences."

They revealed they will do so "by giving the public and regular patrons of APRA access to voting and having a voice that counts".

APRA hopes this will increase the competition locally and "ultimately raise the level of food quality and the standards of service in the Pakistani restaurant industry."

Instead, there must be an award for the best hygienic storage, preparation and presentation of food award.

When restaurateurs take pride in their work and give it their all, the results speak for themselves. Especially now that the culinary offerings are becoming more and more international, having these awards is an excellent idea.

I hope smaller restaurants run by real Pakistanis are not left out and care is taken to keep the process clean. Good attempt.

Restaurants means only restaurants not the restaurants which are running under the roof of a hotel. Apart from cleanliness and hygiene there should be an award for the best tasty food served by a restaurant of each city. The choice of selecting best tasty food restaurant should be left on the people of each city.

This is welcome to promote various dishes, menus, food from other regions within Pakistan and internationally accepted delicacies. However, it should be combined with hygienic conditions in the kitchen, cleanliness of the kitchen staff and surroundings. Interesting would be to depute individuals who pay surprise visits to the contesting restaurants at intervals to check the requirements to compete for the event.

Good Step Indeed but people wouldn't stop eating anyway. In my opinion, taste, hygiene and food presentation matters the most of all other things.
